divajools: September 2013

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 14, 2013. Whatcha been up to Sue? Lately I have been doing a whole lot of not very much. Turns out I am rather good at it . It has also become apparent that the less you do - well, the less do. I think it is becoming a habit! I am starting to believe that old adage "if you want something done, ask a busy person to do it". I made the crown from copper and I would like to create a bit more of a verdigris on there. Looking at the photos I think I might darken up her lips too. At the end ...

divajools: October 2013

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 29, 2013. All of these pieces of jewellery belong to the Cultural Museum of Oaxaca. Pre-Columbian, Zapotec and Mixtec designs - they are really really old. And really really beautiful. I will let the pictures speak for themselves . And teeth . Lots of them! Friday, October 25, 2013. What a lovely beachside town. The pace here suits me I think! And I am fond of mermaids . It is kinda hard to impress an Aussie with beach sunsets but these were pretty good! The zoo was AMAZING! I loved the ...

divajools: November 2013

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 4, 2013. This is a wonderful city full of colour and vibrancy. The artisans of Oaxaca make beautiful things and I have been greatly inspired by the craftwork and architecture I have seen. I found Oaxacans to be super friendly and kind and very patient with the non-Spanish speaking "gringo"! So much saturated colour. Paper mâché piñata . So cool! Even street vendors need to take a break. And of course the Dia de Los Muertos festival was a feast for the senses! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

divajools: March 2015

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 5, 2015. When a fossick at the op shop yielded a cream silk dress for $1, I knew straight away what I would do with it. I have dabbled in dying textiles with plants etc before but without really being invested. If you know what I mean . This time I decided to focus and see what I could create. The dress will yield lots of strips of fabric and is really soft from lots of laundering. First I dampened it and scattered it with rusty nails. It looked fairly mucky when I took it out . I am hope...

divajools: December 2013

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 28, 2013. I have been seeing some beautiful baskets around this Summer. Lots of bright colours, braid and pom-poms seem to be fashionable just now. I am too much of a tight-arse to spend real. Money on such a thing but when I spied a nicely shaped basket - with a zip closure (! In the op shop I figured I would have a go at creating one . It is a nice shape and as I said it has the big advantage of a functioning zip closure and an internal pocket . but the bow? Friday, December 20, 2013.

divajools: July 2013

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 21, 2013. According to Meg Jay,Phd, your twenties are a defining decade. Apparently you can even maximise brain development in this decade - of course you need to buy her book (. The Defining Decade: Why. Your Twenties Matter- And How to Make the Most of Them. To find out how! I haven't read the book so can't comment on its veracity. I do know that I. Vinyl at the op shop. http://divajools.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 23, 2014. Per-sand, am-per- sand. Reclaimed silverplated metal. A bit of fun in the studio today - always room for one more brooch in my life! Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Another day another art form! Tuesday, February 11, 2014. What goes "whirrrrr, bang, woof, whirrrrr, bang, woof"? No wonder I want to run away from home! So I had to get in some studio time this week. http://divajools.blogspot.com/2014/04/chaos.html

Thursday, April 10, 2014. It has been so chaotic around here for quite a long time now that my sanity has been under threat - well maybe not my sanity per say but my chi has been severely impacted! Life has been full of scaffolding and support beams . Also holes, cement and temporary fencing. Painters stuff and clutter everywhere . Ladders to avoid walking under! But this is the reward - a wonderful, light, bright workspace! I do believe happy dancing is in order! Http:/ m.youtube.com/watch? Simple templ...

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2014/03/get-tin-me-sum-cultcha.html

Friday, March 14, 2014. Get tin me sum cultcha . The Adelaide Biennial is here and the Dark Heart. It features some really great Aussie artists and I thought I would share a couple of my faves. I plan to go back for a second look because it was such a lot to take in. Below is a detail from her nine meter long painting " heartland". Del Barton's work is often steeped in the feminine and this one is resplendent with feminine form . and well, it is just so darn pretty as well! Today I found a piece of print...

divajools: January 2014

http://divajools.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 13, 2014. Fibre and jewellery - good combo! I seem to be shying away from the hard work of making metal jewellery and my attention has been taken up by bright colours and fibres! It could be the effects of Summer . Whatever is going on I can't seem to get enough of neon bright colours and textures. It all started quite innocently when I made some of these . Who doesn't love tassles right? Well I just had to have me some of that . Now I just need to finish them off . First up I revamped a ...

Life on the road in a semi-pro covers band. Sunday, December 18, 2016. However, I thought the tune was interesting and some of the words were relevant to the new work "The Garon's Daughter", so I thought I would add the extra verses and make a full song of it. The ambition remained to produce to demo standard in Cakewalk Sonar - I wouldn't be spending too much time tracking the backing. Then, using a guitar driving my EHX Mel 9, I was able to add Mellotron type string parts played on guitar. This wor...

I'm Counting the Beat

Im Counting the Beat. Excuse me while I get this pesky life business under control. May 28th, 2013 at 8:53 PM. Brushes dust off LJ*. Im bad at things. Apparently Im even worse at consistent internetting, outside of tumblr at any rate. Oh gods, what am I to do? Oh god what is this. My Thoughts on the Little Mermaid. Nov 7th, 2011 at 2:05 PM. C&Ped from Tumblr so I can keep track of it because it's the most articulate I've been about why I dislike Disney's Little Mermaid). I want to love this, I really do.
