Image Culture: March 2010

http://mollysimageculture.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 29, 2010. Trip to the Lab. Last weekend, the Image Culture class visited a neuroscience lab. Why, you may ask, are a group of educators and future arts managers touring such a facility? Following this talk, we descended to a lab in which the research is conducted. I found it thrilling be in the real inner workings of the lab instead of a in a visitor intended environment. Following the fruit flies, we were allowed to smell single molecule solutions that mimicked more complex smells. Last we...

Image Culture: Armory Show

http://mollysimageculture.blogspot.com/2010/03/armory-show.html

Saturday, March 6, 2010. The breadth of the work offered was astounding. Gone are the artistic “camps” of the previous century, in which an artist either created abstract or representational art. Today such styles can exist side-by-side in the same gallery, and can even be created by the same artist. From classic minimalist sculpture to playful satires of the work of Degas and Turner, there is something for everyone at this show. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Image Culture: 75th Anniversary Show

http://mollysimageculture.blogspot.com/2010/03/75th-anniversary-show.html

Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Last week I visited the Museum of Modern Art San Francisco (SFMOMA) for its 75th Anniversary exhibition. I was interested in this show for several reasons, one of which is that the Frick Collection, a small museum of Old Masters, is also celebrating a 75th Anniversary. I was curious to see how a museum with a completely different mission celebrated this milestone. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Trip to the Lab. Monday, March 15, 2010. McLuhan "The medium is the message". Is the Message" is a very interesting. Thursday, April 1, 2010. Article-People getting hired from their Flickr images. I thought that this article would be interesting for the class from "The New York Times". It tells a terrific story about a woman who uploaded her Hawaii vacation pictures onto Flickr, only to be hired by stock image company Getty Images. She now makes a monthly income from license fees of her photos. Here is the link. Http:/ www.nytimes.com/2010/03/30/business/media/30photogs.html. April 10, 2010 at 7:52 AM.

Image Culture

http://imageculture2010.blogspot.com/2010/04/i-was-at-dinner-party-last-night-for.html

Sunday, April 18, 2010. Although the conversation moved on, I was left wondering why this was so. Could it be that images of 9/11 were so abundant that people have become numb to some degree? Is it because the majority of dinner guests were living in the NYC-Long Island area when it happened versus the photo in discussion was taken in Sudan? Is it because 9/11 was an act of terrorism - humans against humans, whereas the image of the vulture and the boy is nature at its worst? May 6, 2010 at 2:49 AM.

Who claims three objects cannot be seen: the sun, genitals, and death. (103). A series of questions follow his argument of vision such as Why are these objects problematic for vision? Monday, March 15, 2010. I went to see the movie The Hurt Locker of Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow. In my opinion the entire movie was based on image emotion effect on a realistic documentarry type of style. Very heavy, emotional, and some realistic (unfortunately this hapend in the world). According to the NYtimes. 8220;The Hurt Locker,”. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow. The movie uses the images to address emotion to the extreme points. The movies also make a conection between individual and society.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Visual Journalism We Can All Take Part In. This morning I read an article that reminded me a lot of class and I thought it could be fun for us to participate in A Timely Global Mosaic, Created by All of Us. The basic idea is that everyone is invited to join in taking a photo on May 2 at the exact same moment to create a mosaic of one single moment in the life of our planet. Then you're supposed to send your photo to Lens, the photography blog of the New York Times.
