Water, top soil etc. And with the slope is a greater chance of slipping and falling for mom and her friends. It made sense to slow the slope with a series of low terraces and designated paths. It also made sense to use that good top soil in the garden and create a depression to collect any rain run off. We also did a bit of canning and picking of tomatoes. It has been a busy 16 months!

The neighbors all slow down at they drive by to look, I don't think any of them thought it would ever look this good. Decades of 4 sheets of plywood, 5 months of tarps and still untrimmed.Doors! Sunday, April 10, 2011. Does it Ever End? Last week I put the final sections of picket fencing up across the right side of the upper yard. Now to paint all those new pickets! And since the paint is different than the one we used when we did the front yard, those need a fresh coat too. I got the first coat of paint on all the new pickets and about 1/2 way through the old ones on that side too. The neighbor is going to be adding a driveway directly across the street from her. Monday, November 5, 2012. Wow, it has been a busy year. Guess it is time to catch up on the blog. May 2011 is kind of where I left off. June was busy, a minor repair turned in to a redo of a room, dry wall repairs, new window casing, paint carpet, lighting etc. Also a fresh coat of paint and some beadboard for the kitchen. Wednesday, May 25, 2011. One mans treasure is another mans trash. In this odyssey of cleaning up my parents place, I have thought of this often, usually while hold some random rusted item. This week it has been the garages we have tackled. It was brought on by missing tools and hardware that we knew we had but just where did it go? First we cleaned out the storeroom and found many treasures, like wire cutters. He was worried about the garages falling or me taking his treasures. What was the "good stuff"?

Thursday, September 24, 2009. Old Fashioned 4th of July at the Stow House. Stow House for the Old Fashioned 4th of July is always a. Fun event. They usually have a steam. Up of some of the old farm machinery. Freshly painted tactors, vintage cars, people dressed to fit the period and music. Across the street from the restored Goleta Depot building are a few of the lemon groves, much of the events have some historical root in the lemon growing industry.and of course a lot of lemonade is served.
