Just when you were thinking of dry rock and sea stacs. Thanks to Paddy Cave. Who continues to drive north to enjoy quiet ice on Nevis. Alpine training. Bivvy beneath your chosen climb and climb by torch-light into the dawn. From Paddy:….Good to catch up with you and a few shots for your blog/fb etc attached from today and yesterday. See the narrows on Point 5, looks complete but the photo doesn’t show the water pouring! Looking into Point Five Gully. Dry rock and wet ice? Ben Nevis Smith's Route.

Tom Broadbent Climbing: The Joy of Training
http://tombroadbent.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-joy-of-training.html
The ramblings of someone with a very bad habit. Tuesday, 11 December 2012. The Joy of Training. It has to be done. If you want to climb something hard whether it be a DT, mixed or ice route, you have to train. There's not much point turning up at the bottom of an overhanging beast of a bolted mixed route having climbed slabby or vertical trad routes all summer, the only thing you will get out of that is. your arse handed to you. Let us set our own circuits on the steep boards on offer at the wall. Climbi...

Tom Broadbent Climbing: Masson Lees Revisited
http://tombroadbent.blogspot.com/2013/02/masson-lees-revisited.html
The ramblings of someone with a very bad habit. Monday, 11 February 2013. When faced with the option of having a lie in bed, leisurely breakfast and heading down the wall in the afternoon or getting up early and driving through the snow, shouting at pensioners who cant drive and hanging around in a minging cave, which option do you chose? Hanging around in a minging cave of course! Matt prepping for a blast on Sub Rosa (M10). I'll update the topo soon but in the meantime its the line to the right of Sick...

Reports - winter conditions and activity. Friday, March 29, 2013. Raven Crag Gully 29-03-13. Brilliant conditions on the classic Raven Crag Gully ice-falls today. We were out for a 'Cold Climbs' route today and on hearing this was in it seemed too good to miss, it was of course fairly busy but moved along OK with everyone enjoying a very social atmosphere. I think this must be one of the best ice routes I've done in the Lakes and is justifiably popular and great value! Raven Crag Gully IV/4(5)* *. Tuesda...

Reports - winter conditions and activity. Wednesday, December 12, 2012. After a soggy start to the week a lot of the easier snow and ice routes have come in to fairly good condition. The snow that had been very wet is now frozen hard and any ice that survived has now got better. I was up at Blea Water yesterday and there was some climbable ice about but the main Gill only had some overnight ice on it, it might be better by tomorrow though. Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Sunday, December 09, 2012. And fini...

Tom Broadbent Climbing: January 2013
http://tombroadbent.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
The ramblings of someone with a very bad habit. Wednesday, 30 January 2013. Rabenstein World Cup and Stuff! The 3rd round of the Ice Climbing World Cup took place at the weekend, once again, Andy and Simon travelled out there hoping to climb hard and in Simon's case, "impress the ladies". Andy and Simon both climbed well on a very steep board with "shit placements" but unfortuntately missed out on semi-final qualification. Next stop, Romania. Full results can be found on the UIAA website. Otherwise each ...

Tom Broadbent Climbing: Saas Fee World Cup
http://tombroadbent.blogspot.com/2013/01/saas-fee-world-cup.html
The ramblings of someone with a very bad habit. Monday, 21 January 2013. Saas Fee World Cup. Russian domination continued in Saas Fee, even more so now that Markus Bendler has decided to call it quits. The top 8 consisted of 6 Russians, 1 Ukranian and 1 Korean! Maybe its time to place a cap on the number of representatives each country can have? Otherwise each round will just be the Russian national championships. Full results for the comp are here on the Saas Fee site. Some screen shots of the action.
