Mountain Mel's Cowlitz River Country Club. Tuesday, March 22, 2011. I May Have Been Wrong. Salmon were counted, not even one. This news is all just fine and dandy with me because although the water level has dropped, the Cowlitz still is off-color downstream of the mouth of the Toutle and I don't like fishing above the mouth of the Toutle, plain and simple. Now it will be a never-ending job for the rest of summer. The river looks absolutely gorgeous today. The level is perfect, so is the color.
