cool clear water: September 2013
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 28, 2013. Saturday morning started with a coat of stain on Grandpa Frank's porch benches. Next up was splitting the big rounds from my wood pile. This job required Super Hero Nephew G to hook up the splitter to the four wheeler; then assist moving it to the wood shed. Super Hero Nephew S handled the rounds under the splitter with Grandpa Frank at the controls. Finishing up both SHN's provided the ballast to lay the splitter down. That thing is HEAVY! And now it's my turn! The trail ev...

cool clear water: Kaniakapupu Ruins
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2015/04/kaniakapupu-ruins.html
Thursday, April 23, 2015. The Kanaiakapupu ruins, summer palace of King Kahmehameha, were a high light of my visit. Many thanks to intrepid explorer and historian Bonnie for leading our expedition to this scared place. The current trail is a muddy track through a thick bamboo grove. But in King Kahmehameha's day, it was a cobble stone road to accommodate his thousands of visitors. Ti is planted at each corner of the building to create a scared space or maybe bring good luck, not sure which or maybe both.

cool clear water: March 2015
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Wildseed Farms has lots of lupine of all colors blooming. It's an awesome place to practice, I got a few nice shots, including our favorite California Poppy. Blue Bonnets on highway 16 just south of Llano. Mason is a typical Texas small town with BIG Courthouse Square. Lucky to get shot of jail with no leaves on the tree! The author of 'Old Yeller' is from Mason. Abandoned silo behind the jail. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Run, little Roadtrek, run!

cool clear water: Hanaiakamalama
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2015/04/hanaiakamalama.html
Saturday, April 25, 2015. Queen Emma's Summer Palace is also know as 'Hanaiakamalama' ("foster child of the moon"). This is where Emma, her husband and son escaped the dusty summers of Honolulu in the mid 1800s. It's still a good escape! The grounds are cool and inviting with many hugely spreading Monkey Pod trees. The Palace is designed with windows and doors in alignment to create lovely breezes through the building. Looking from front hall out back door. And a cross view. Comments make me happy!

cool clear water: September 2014

Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Indian Rock, Yosemite. What could be better than a day hike in Yosemite on the day AFTER Labor Day! I hit the road very early, but got delayed most of 40 minutes by maintenance on the Tioga Road. Still I was on the North Dome trail to Indian Rock before nine o'clock. The first section of the trail is though very dense forest; soon it opens up to my favorite kind of hiking. This neat fungi growing on a yellow pine caught my eye in the morning sun on the hike out. Looking for a ...

cool clear water: April 2014
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 22, 2014. It was with happy serendipity that I found the storm that had missed Austin the night before my hike had burst over Enchanted Rock. So many years into the drought, it's been a long time since vernal pools, green grass and wild flowers were on the dome. Here is a look at a wash with a piece of prickly pear clearly indicating the high water flow. It's that bright spot on the rock in the middle. A few rain lilies were blooming, but mostly spider wort. cool clear water: April 2015
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 26, 2015. Early in season for best blooms, still, so many flowers! These are from different locations on different days. Some I can identify, some I can't, and some are not even flowers! Red ginger at Queen Emma's. Don't know this sweet plant. Variegated ti with ferns. Back lite shell ginger. Hibiscus are in every color! These tiny 'half' flowers have a lovely story about separated lovers. Hotels, restaurants, retail stores display beautiful bouquets, often featuring Anthurium. The grounds ...

cool clear water: October 2013
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 31, 2013. Balmorhea was my second to last night on the road, and always one of my very favorite stops. Monday, October 28, 2013. Those pretty snow flakes in the forecast for Santa Fe found me stopping for an overnight in Albuquerque before heading farther south; and leaving plenty of time for a morning visit to the Botanic Gardens. They are in downtown Albuquerque on Old Route 66 along the Rio Grande River. It was crispy, with blue bird sky and lots of sunshine. Including the dead wood!

cool clear water: February 2014
http://coolclearwater.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 12, 2014. It was heaven to visit Yosemite Valley on a quiet winter day. What to do? Visit all the iconic spots or hike? Today I did the tourist route, without the tourists! Cascade Creek has a good flow; probably due to our recent rain storm. Next stop, Tunnel View. The sun kissing the top of Bridle Veil Fall. It looks like more water than actually is in the creek. Wow, that was cool! Upper and Lower Yosemite Fall. And the 'Muir' rock on the trail to the Lower Fall. The Hetchy power l...
