Moving the Conversation Along. Commentary on politics, religion and culture. February 28, 2017. It’s time to go for the gold in education. Education reform and the reduction in poverty must be tackled simultaneously to improve our education system. In reading, 20. In math, and 15. In science. Finland, Canada and New Zealand took first, second and third in reading while Hong Kong, Japan, and the Republic of Korea took the top three spots in math and science. In reading, 39. In math and 25. Moving the Conversation Along. Commentary on politics, religion and culture. July 27, 2016. Drug testing welfare recipients isn’t the best idea. Drug testing welfare recipients is an idea that doesn’t go away. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 15 states have passed this type of legislation and another 17 including Iowa have proposed it. And yet, the program hasn’t proven to be a great success. I believe that what working people want more than mandatory drug testing of welfare re...

Moving the Conversation Along. Commentary on politics, religion and culture. October 24, 2016. Clinton’s history of corruption, without consequences, should be a deal breaker. Historically, voters send an individual to the White House who is in good standing on Election Day. Most serve their country well. Sometimes, though, the president surprises and disappoints citizens by committing a potentially impeachable act. This election, though, voters know. Clinton stated that she, never received nor sent any ...

Moving the Conversation Along. Commentary on politics, religion and culture. November 30, 2016. 8220;Buyer beware” is necessary to help contain health care costs. Some people, who had never cast a ballot before, voted in this past election solely as a protest to the financial burden that Obamacare had placed upon their families. Voting is a good tool, but there’s something more immediate that can produce good results in containing health care costs taking personal responsibility. For example, knee and hi...

Musings of a Menopausal Introvert. When life gets in the way…. May 24, 2015. May 24, 2015. I blinked and months have passed. I haven’t taken pictures, I haven’t blogged. What have I done? We like things to manifest right away, and they may not. Many times, we’re just planting a seed and we don’t know exactly how it is going to come to fruition. It’s hard for us to realize that what we see in front of us might not be the end of the story. Glass half empty, half full, I’ll take a refill please! Commentary ...

Musings of a Menopausal Introvert. I’m not a very good traveler…. April 11, 2015. The second problem was realizing that I didn’t know how to pack my hair products to meet TSA on board liquid guidelines. So, I resorted to my usual pattern of packing, re-packing, squeezing all kinds of stuff in my suitcase and checking a bag. Then when I get to my destination I have all kinds of clothes that I never wear, and nothing that I actually need. There’s a list for that! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Address never m...

Musings of a Menopausal Introvert. That subtle shift…. June 28, 2015. June 28, 2015. That subtle shift from being cared for to caretaker. From child of parent to parent of parent. From “going home” and being the child again to “going home” to be the monitor, the spy, the coordinator. Is Dad able to take care of his daily needs? Does Mom understand her medications? Should Dad be driving? Is Dad confused or is it me who is confused? Am I being the best daughter that I can be? Am I missing something big?

Musings of a Menopausal Introvert. That’s a good boy! February 28, 2015. The vigorous puppy who became stir crazy if he had to spend more than an hour at a time indoors is now content to lay on the floor most of the day. The young dog who begged to play fetch, go hunting, or swimming is now happy to cuddle and receive ear and belly rubs. The bittersweet life span of a dog. Musings of a Menopausal Introvert. Trying to find the time (and money) to improve and expand my photography skills. April 22, 2015. April 22, 2015. I love taking photographs. I especially love it when the photo that I take reflects what I actually see. It’s rare when it happens, but when it does I keep it somewhere on my computer. Photography storage is a whole other topic for another blog post, today I’m going to ramble on about the taking of photos. Dakota’s paw taken last fall. This was taken in Grand...

Musings of a Menopausal Introvert. Just call me a chronic Weight Watcher. August 1, 2015. August 1, 2015. Menopause, of course but I can’t blame it all on the M word because a few of the things that I haven’t neglected have been candy crush and dessert. So, I hauled my ass back to weight watchers for the 10th time. So far I’ve lost 5 pounds and I’m going give it my best shot once again. There should be some sort of prize for the most times failing at weight watchers! That subtle shift…. Silver in the Barn.

A blog about experiencing the changes of Christian life as an individual and as a congregation. April 25, 2015. Grace for the Condemned…. A prisoner of sorts…. Are you willing to share your faith? If so, how should we accomplish this? Can we be willing to spend time with people so that they can be assured, even if they are about to die, that they are cherished by God and can be saved? Are we willing to look beyond the circumstances, sinfulness, and lawbreaking of someone and just speak grace? That is act...

Moving the Conversation Along. Commentary on politics, religion and culture. December 31, 2016. Electoral College works best with swing states. Swing states get a candidate’s time and money during presidential campaigns. Safe states don’t. Even delegate-heavy states that are certain to go Democratic or Republican are less important to the campaign than states with fewer delegates that could flip either way. Picking up three, six or more toss-up delegates are important in the race to 270. The voting patte...
