In Tete, Mozambique! Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Escola Josina Machel, Tete. yesterday. Where old school desks go to die. Even simple, sturdy materials don't last forever. What happens when desks break? Who's responsible for fixing them? Apparently there just isn't extra money to buy the planks needed to fix the desks. They apply for money from the state and don't get it. So, the pile grows. This classroom block was built in 1957! A renovation was done in 2007. How often are they allowed to repaint?

In Tete, Mozambique! Nyungwe is a language spoken in west central Mozambique. No real statistic has been verified as to number of speakers - somewhere between 300,000 and 500,000 probably (loosely based on census stats for districts where Nyungwe is likely to be spoken). Sample Nyungwe texts can be found at LIDEMO.NET. In addition to these publications, there is a dictionary and grammar volume published in 1899/1900 by the Catholics. More recently, there is a grammar/dictionary done by the Combonianos.

I wrote a LONG post a couple of months ago and lost the entire thing somehow. It made me very sad because I just didn't have it in me to start over! I will attempt now to update this chronicle. We'll see how it goes. David has made great strides in potty training finally. Have I learned my lesson?

Quando o encontrava sozinho, fazia compras no mercado para ele e dizia que levasse para casa e pedisse para algum adulto preparar o alimento. Descobri que ele era órfão e morava apenas com o avô cego, que, posteriormente faleceu e o deixou sozinho no mundo. I have to say (again) how sad it makes me that I have almost completely quit blogging since I started "facebooking." I really enjoy looking back at the entries about the boys. Oh well. All I can do is try to do better. :). I am a busy girl these days:. I wish I could hire a sitter, but that make me be cleaning almost for free- and I don't enjoy it quite that much!
