Q-Notes: Note-taking strategy | Teaching Social Studies and Language Arts
https://mrsgannon.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/q-notes-note-taking-strategy
Teaching Social Studies and Language Arts. A teacher exploring integration. Posted February 18, 2012. This year I am teaching a combined LA/SS block, so I decided to teach note-taking when it came time for the informational text unit. It was incredibly successful and I’ve been using it as a building block to other things since. The strategy is very simple, and easy to use on any text with sub-headings. Write the name of the lesson, the article, or chapter at the top of the page. Update: The explanation h...

Teaching Social Studies and Language Arts. A teacher exploring integration. Posted February 18, 2014. Filed under: Google Apps. I mentioned in my last post about my current love affair with Google Apps for Education. Before I go any further, I thought I should share with you what this is and why it is great for teaching and learning. If you are already on the bandwagon, have a great day and look for my next post. Why is this a big deal? If the work is in “the cloud” there are no more issues w...Google Ap...

Teaching Social Studies and Language Arts. A teacher exploring integration. On student note-taking and determining importance. Posted June 15, 2013. I was walking around our media center, excited to read over my students’ shoulders as they worked on an integrated project. Within five minutes, both my teaching partner and I had lines around us with students waiting for conferences. A hum fell over the space, but not the hum of productivity – the hum of frustration! To create a common questioning vocabular...
Interactive Notebooks | Teaching Social Studies and Language Arts

Teaching Social Studies and Language Arts. A teacher exploring integration. My most popular posts seem to be on the implementation of the Interactive Notebook strategy. I decided to create this page to arrange them in the most logical order. What is an Interactive Notebook? What is best for an interactive notebook – binder, spiral, or composition notebook? How do I put handouts in – glue or tape? How do you format pages for a composition notebook? Do you number the pages? How do you keep things organized?

A small gift of time. It’s given to us generously and we often take it for granted until we find ourselves with a lack of it. We fill our time with this and that. We dream of desires to do this and that when we steal a bit of time for ourselves. But, often, we don’t even do those things. *Guilty*. Be still and know that. I’ll try. If nothing else is produced in me, then please God, let it be that I can bring peace to another, kindness, and above all, love. December 9, 2016. Okay, so the update:. So, here...

Final Winter Reflection…. March 18, 2014. I’m sitting here contemplating my journey to becoming a teacher and I’ve realized somethingI’m reflecting! I find myself reflecting all the time.
