Well, someone must have liked my abstract. So, in early January I submitted an abstract for a conference. It is a big conference and outside of my traditional field. I've been hoping to break in to this particular community, and figured this would be my chance. I wasn't even sure they would accept my abstract. I was also pretty sure I'd be relegated to a poster rather than a talk, as most people who aren't big names (and even some who are) usually get posters. They must have really liked my abstract.

Well, here I am. Metallian finally twisted my arm and here I am, the proud owner of a brand new LJ. I have to admit that you are most likely to find me commenting on other people's LJs rather than posting long-winded updates about my recent visit to the hairdresser. And I will be out of contact for late February and all of March. I'll just post one big preemptive rant about seasickness, as that will likely reflect my day-to-day mood during that particular time period. Anyone wanna be my friend?

Salmon with fermented black bean sauce. Okay, I'm not sure how long I'll actually keep this up. I want to start posting one recipe a week on my LJ. These will start with some of my favorites. Some of you who overlapped with me at AO might remember this first one. The smell takes some getting used to, but the flavor is great:. Salmon with fermented black bean sauce. Serves 2 (with plenty of sauce to pour over the fish and rice if you want). 3/4 lb salmon (fillet or steak). 3 cloves garlic, minced.

I've spent a significant amount of time traveling in Tanzania (on four different occasions) but have never made it to Zanzibar (part of Tanzania) in particular (malaria anyone? On Saturday, I lamented to. How I almost always feel a little crappy in some way and am rarely 100% physically comfortable. I'm usually a bit sore and/or a bit tired and/or my sinuses are bugging me and/or my guts are feeling noticeably too bloated or too empty. I don't let those things.
