Mike Likes –. Shafer Trail–Musselman Arch. It was a pleasant day riding from Airport to the Potash Road along wide shelves and narrow cliff bands. We used what little water ballast we had, minus a full camel back, before climbing the Shafer Trail, so trailers were relatively light, but still heavier than I expected. Lathrop Canyon was an 11 mile round trip from Airport camp areas, well, 13 miles this day as I lost my Cateye speedometer, and dropped back down the first mile of rim to find it in a bush, and back again. The first mile down is a little steep in places, nothing too exciting, the middle two miles are regular canyon road and the last mile to the Colorado River is sand.
