Journal of a reluctant runner. Once a distance walker now contemplating the addictive highs of endurance running, and realising why not everyone does it. K-Way VOB Table Mountain 16 km. June 22, 2015. Wow What was this weekend’s running all about? A late-night, post-dinner run on Friday, a sunny, light and easy run with The Kid on Saturday, and a 16 km up and up and up run on Sunday. I think it was 6 km of up and up and up. Then there was another 2 km of undulating up and up, with maybe a 500 m stret...

Journal of a reluctant runner. Once a distance walker now contemplating the addictive highs of endurance running, and realising why not everyone does it. June 1, 2015. June 2, 2015. Monday, the first day of June, and the stirrings of the demons that give the Cape of Storms its name. the weather has been antisocial for days now and, with rumours of approaching storms, it’s not going to be bikini weather for a good long while. I intended running 10 km but renegotiated this distance with myself numerous tim...

September 8, 2016. September 8, 2016. And my stupid head is so teeny-tiny, they probably don’t make straps small enough to fit around it. I’ll have my headlamp hanging between my eyes like a giant, glowing bindi. Next time. My watch signaled the end of the first kay. 5:51/km? The next kay was also under 6:00/km. I c...

Journal of a reluctant runner. Once a distance walker now contemplating the addictive highs of endurance running, and realising why not everyone does it. June 14, 2015. Wine was poured and drunk and I got to speak to a few people I hadn’t met before. Mostly I got to hear about how very, very fast they were, and I resolved to just give up running. What was the point? And then, suddenly, tequila arrived. I don’t want tequila! It was time to call it a night. Wine and tequila was not what I had in mind.

June 12, 2015. June 12, 2015. Day 11 of 100 days of running and, if the running isn’t necessarily getting easier, the hardest part of running for me, i.e. getting out the door, definitely is.
