MT Hike and Fish. Fishing and hiking in and around Glacier National Park. Skip to primary content. Last MT Hiking Trip! September 15, 2013. We came from the bottom of this valley. After leaving the trees the views really opened up! Piegan Glacier sits atop Piegan Mountain on the top right of the picture. My buddy hiked this a few years ago and highly recommended it. I can see why! This would be a great trail to view wildflowers from mid July thorough mid August! Stay Tuned: I hope to refine my walleye fi...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing: Trip Report: State Park Fishing
http://mndriftlessflyfishing.blogspot.com/2016/10/trip-report-state-park-fishing.html
Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Thursday, October 27, 2016. Trip Report: State Park Fishing. I got out for a few short hours to chase trout around one of Minnesota's three state parks which allow trout fishing while the season is closed for all other small streams in the Minnesota driftless. With cloudy skies and a good stain on the water fishing was pretty easy. I tied on a black egg sucking leech and watched lots of trout chase, swing, and occasionally connect. Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing: January 2017
http://mndriftlessflyfishing.blogspot.com/2017_01_01_archive.html
Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Monday, January 30, 2017. More Tying Than Fishing! Like the title says, I've been doing a lot more tying than fishing. I plan to get out fishing this weekend if the weather cooperates.we'll see. Check out Whitewater Valley Flies. To check out lots of new inventory! Sunday, January 15, 2017. Trip Report: Cold and Lazy. I left them in the car. Rather than head back I moved on. I followed them back to the car after catching around 1 1/2 dozen trout. The biggest was only ...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Sunday, February 28, 2016. Trip Report: Fishin' With Mike! I originally planned to spend my weekend building a fly rod for someone but all of the components did not arrive on time. My brother in law Mike decided to make a last minute trip to the Minnesota Driftless and expressed interest in chasing some trouts this morning. New plan! Mike started the day with a decent brookie! His first brookie ever in fact! I proceeded to catch one after the other. If you'd like to purch...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Thursday, April 21, 2016. Trip Report: Skittering Caddis. I got out of work a few hours early this afternoon so I headed to the nearest stream hoping to find some fish rising to caddis. Temps measured in the mid 60's and winds blew around 10mph. I began fishing under the sun but clouds quickly moved in. Sunday, April 17, 2016. Trip Report: Finally The Caddis. After landing around two dozen trout on the dry caddis I returned to the pink squirrel of prey. Clouds built t...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing: March 2016
http://mndriftlessflyfishing.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html
Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Trip Report: After Work Delight. Yesterday I took a few hours of vacation time to chase trout on a delightful stream that lies not too far from work. It was breezy which made casting hard but air temps were comfortable. The snow is gone now and the stream was clear and flowing well. The sun was muted by light wispy clouds which made approaching this tiny creek a little easier. I figure if I'm going to sell fly rods I'll have to build a sexy one ...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Sunday, July 31, 2016. Trip Report: Darn Good Fishin'. I wasn't planning to fish much this weekend but after purchasing a new car yesterday I had to celebrate. Every time the wife and I have to spend a lot of money I usually have pretty good luck on the stream. When we had to pay north of a grand to fix up our puppy I landed two 20 inch trout. Last night proved similar. After landing a few smaller trout this skinny trout hit! Before long I landed this nice brownie from an...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing: November 2016
http://mndriftlessflyfishing.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html
Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Sunday, November 27, 2016. Trip Report: Back To It. After taking a brief hiatus from fishing to tie flies, build rods, and go deer hunting I got back on the water today. Temps hovered in the low 40's all day with a slight wind. Skies were partly cloudy and my stream of choice was crystal clear. Which fished pretty well. Around 1200 I switched over to the Pink Squirrel of Prey with a sunken size 16 CDC Emerger. And action heated up. Check out Whitewater Valley Flies. Most ...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing: Trip Report: State Park Season!
http://mndriftlessflyfishing.blogspot.com/2016/10/trip-report-state-park-season.html
Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Tuesday, October 18, 2016. Trip Report: State Park Season! Here in MN we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to catch trout year 'round! The state park season runs from October 15-December 31. During this time trout fishing is closed in all but the rivers of Forestville State Park, Whitewater State Park, and Beaver Creek Valley State Park. After putting up a blank on the Brule this weekend I decided to fish a state park to redeem myself. After missing a few strikes I...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing: August 2016
http://mndriftlessflyfishing.blogspot.com/2016_08_01_archive.html
Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Saturday, August 27, 2016. Trip Report: Finally Got Him (and his buddy). With the wife out of town I decided to spend most of my weekend afield. I got out last night for a little while on a stream close to home and found the river in great shape. Streams in the area are running full with a great greenish-blue stain. I decided to work on my streamer game and had OK luck. This chunky beast took the squirrel of prey and went berserk! Sunday, August 21, 2016. The walk in was ...

Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing: Trip Report: Fishing Again!
http://mndriftlessflyfishing.blogspot.com/2016/11/trip-report-fishing-again.html
Minnesota Driftless Fly Fishing. Saturday, November 5, 2016. Trip Report: Fishing Again! With temps forecast in the low 70's I decided to get out early to beat the rush at a nearby state park. I was on the road around 8 and rolled into the park by 830. The temp read 36 degrees on my car thermometer and I immediately regretted leaving my sweatshirt at home. After a brisk walk I found myself streamside, tying on a pink squirrel of prey. Things heated up quick. This stream flows out of a little cave. I'...
