Is credited with the concept of establishing a volunteer program for the Boy Scouts and other groups as far back as 1972. He was very active with the mountains and the Forest Service. Here he is seen with Mike McIntyre, the Forest Archeologist. Unfortunately, Jim became afflicted Alzheimer's Disease and finally died this year, 2005. See tribute page. On the first day they went to Echo Mountain to work and talk about starting a volunteer group (1992). Brian and Jim Spencer with Paul Ayers.

It had all burned down to the foundation in the 1950's. This area had been constructed sometime in the early 1920's, a little more than 20 years after the Tavern had been built. Took the morning off today for a big training ride. An incredible ride with a ton of single track. Here's the detail. Chaney Trail connecting with Mt. Lowe. We detoured a bit up to Inspiration Point.
