At the awards banquet, Thomas Waerner received the Rookie of the Year for the rookie who placed the highest. Saturday, October 29, 2011. The Beauty of Fall Training. More Reasons We Run Dogs. With temps in the 20's, it was a perfect day to run the dogs. After quickly hooking up, we set off through the beautiful Iowa Autumn woods. Wildlife was plentiful, as we saw several deer, plus a kamikaze squirrel that darted across the trail a couple of feet in front of a speeding dog team! The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race starts this weekend in Wyoming; while the John Beargrease race in Minnesota has been canceled due to a lack of snow, a 'make-up' of sorts has been scheduled on the portion of trail that has snow. Thursday, March 19, 2015. Iditarod Update - Thursday March 19. Nome is a busy place, as the teams keep coming in. The top twenty have already finished. Reports of severe weather on the bay has forced some teams to hunker down before reaching Koyuk, with numerous others stopped in Shaktoolik. Thomas Waerner wins the Rookie of the Year award over Jason Campeau by an hour and twenty minutes. With long-time racer Jim Lanier scratching, ten teams are out of the race. Joar Leifseth Ulsom (16). The top five teams are heading towards the coastal village of Unalakleet, the first stop on the Bering Sea coast.
