Musings of Mine

Thursday, May 28, 2009. The March of Dimes was created to raise money to cure polio. Many of us remember putting those little coins into slots in cardboard cards, which once filled, were sent to the March of Dimes to help other children avoid this deadly disease. In 1955 Dr. Jonas Salk created a vaccine against polio. The March of Dimes had achieved its goal, and therefore had no further reason to exist. But the organization did not “lay itself down.”. Once brought to life, they don’t want to die. Plus y...

Musings of Mine: December 2007

http://musingsofcorsonf.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 29, 2007. A Reflection on the Amazon Kindle. In 1962 a taxi dropped me off at the men's dorm at Penn. I had a small trunk filled with clothes and a wallet. I did not have a laptop, a cell phone, an iPod, or an Amazon Kindle. I was a primitive. The Amazon Kindle requires 399 of today's dollars. It comes with wireless access to Wikipedia as a door prize, a freebie, a sweetener for geeks like me who realize what utterly astonishing times we live in. To which the answer is no, not yet.).

Saturday, January 24, 2009. Print is Dead, Right? Several weeks ago I posted a discussion-starter on Linked-In. I got some interesting replies, and want to share this, and my wrap-up thoughts, in this blog entry. Here goes! Esteemed colleagues: Book sales have been flat for years, and now are trending down. Newspapers are imploding, and magazines may not be far behind. Print on paper is dead, right? Senior Manufacturing Buyer at Large Publisher:. Musings of Mine: April 2009

http://musingsofcorsonf.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 06, 2009. Let's Just Do It Ourselves. Presented for discussion purposes in “Proposal” form. That academic libraries and university presses undertake a comprehensive program to scan books of academic value that are out-of-print. The goals of this program would be preservation, access, rationalization of collection storage, electronic repurposing of content, and the creation of a research database. Linked with a print-on-demand and e-publishing program, this project could be self-sustaining.

Opinion on just about anything, though mainly international politics. And nothing about golf. Unpaid internships thanks just isn’t enough. He defended it by telling. BBC news: “It’s advertising for a post for volunteers. Lots of people want to do it. It’s good experience. Needless to say, the chap has been branded a hypocrite. This episode has reignited the issue of whether interns are being exploited or not by companies and if interns should be paid a wage. The issue is a huge grey area, and nobody seem...

a little piece of corrine

A little piece of corrine. But don't worry, there is plenty to go around. My 50 Cents on 50 Shades. cause I can't not have an opinion. Christian Grey is a messed up man. He really should be seeing a therapist to work through his issues. But he does not live in such a world; he lives in a world where brooding, domineering men are seen as mysterious and troubled. This does not excuse what he did at all. I've come to try and live my life by a quote I found last year:. Are they uplifting you? Are they helpin...

Musings of a Crazy Redhead

Musings of a Crazy Redhead. August 16, 2015. Here Goes.Random Musings. Assorted Footprints" by Peter Griffin. I keep erasing what I'm going to write. Why should I erase anything if I plan on having it be random? Ah, but this must be methodical madness randomness. I'm debating about stuff to write. I have so many ideas that run through my brain. I mentioned this on Make a Living Writing blog. The editor, Carol Tice, said "triage.". I have to prioritize what to write. I've applied to several freelance jobs...

Curmudgeon

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH! It is always encouraging to learn that one is not alone. At least 3000 people have now taken the trouble to object to the council’s totally irrational bin swap scheme. A Tameside resident, proving that not all Tamesider's are of the lemming persuasion, has opened an on-line petition stating logical objections to the scheme and questioning the council’s validity in introducing such nonsense. A seventy eight per cent success rate! Frankly, Tameside Council, that’s rubbish! Another p...

The Musings of Daisy's Progeny. Monday, October 12, 2009. I haven't posted anything in a while. And sadly I am not going to take the time right now to write about all that is going on as I am not in the writing mood. Things are great though. The school year is off to an amazing start and things are running much more smoothly than last year. 1 Where is your cell phone? 5 Your favorite food? 6 Your dream last night? 7 Your favorite drink? 9 What room are you in? 12 Where do you want to be in 6 years? Poems, Songs and musings of Dave Cox

Poems, Songs and musings of Dave Cox. Snapshots of feelings, perceptions of reality, dreams, hopes, protests and connection with that which is. Sunday, May 3, 2015. More thoughts on thought. It's been a long time since I've posted anything out in the blog space, but I've had variations on this conversation several times in the last couple of weeks, and it feels like I should put this out there. Does it represent a threat? Can we eat it? Will it help me? Is she holding anything? Well, if you are carrying ...
