Steel Mill Modeling/P&LE and Pittsburgh Area Railroads: April 2010
http://steelmillmodeling-ple-csx.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Steel Mill Modeling/P&LE and Pittsburgh Area Railroads. Tuesday, April 27, 2010. I plan on starting the painting process on the huletts in the next few days. I've been practicing the painting technique that I want to try that will resemble a pair of huletts in their final years. The side panels of this coal tipples storage bin and vertical supports are close to what I'm looking for. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Steel Mill and Modeling Links. Yahoo Group - Still Mill Group. HobbyDr's Workbench: July 2011
http://hobbydr.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 29, 2011. Transfer Caboose, Pt.4. The project continues. Next up was the walkway over the roof. I debated this for a while, as I really liked the smooth, clean roof-line, but the walkway won out. I started by slicing off the bottom of the cupola. (This is why you never throw anything away.). It took some gentle sanding to get this fragile part, but the curve perfectly matched the roof while the top was flat. I cut, trimmed, and re-glued it into these 'J'-shaped. Here it is installed. The bra...

HobbyDr's Workbench: August 2011
http://hobbydr.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Inspiration from an Old Friend, Pt.3. The project progresses, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. But I'm having fun, and that's all that matters. Art scratch built a motorized roll-up door out of scraps of the corrugated awnings for this side of the boiler room addition. Remember, he was holding himself to only. Using the kit parts, as well as using all. Of the kit parts. Also remember, I am not. Here it is glued to the back of the top of the long wall. The styrene strip...

HobbyDr's Workbench: May 2013
http://hobbydr.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 20, 2013. I began, of course, with styrene. For the front and left sides, with. For the wooden floors. As the back and right walls were not going to be seen, I went with. For them. (Actually, I never intended to make any interior details, so all the inner surfaces would be plain as well. Though I was making three houses, I started just with one to test the proportions. The side walls are 12' wide by 8' tall, with the roof peak at 11'.The front wall is 20' wide. Then mark them with a scribe.

HobbyDr's Workbench: Inspiration from an Old Friend, Pt.11
http://hobbydr.blogspot.com/2011/12/inspiration-from-old-friend-pt11.html
Sunday, December 18, 2011. Inspiration from an Old Friend, Pt.11. We're in the homestretch now. I think I have all the outer details complete. Let's take a look. The external stairway is installed, as are the awnings over the windows and doors. I decided against vines for added interest to this corner. I went with an awning for the loading dock. And a sign board, for the company logo. I don't know, did I go from 'too blah' to 'too busy'? The back wall. Nothing much has changed here since last time. I thi...

HobbyDr's Workbench: Angled Factory
http://hobbydr.blogspot.com/2013/02/angled-factory.html
Thursday, February 28, 2013. The basic building is made from two kits. I pretty much followed Art's cutting diagram for the walls. I scratch built all the docks, platforms, and stairs. You can see the upper roof has multiple angles. The main roof is flat. The walls are capped with some PikeStuff tiles. I wrapped the foundation with some Evergreen. HobbyDr's Workbench: Plastics Factory
http://hobbydr.blogspot.com/2013/03/plastics-factory.html
Friday, March 1, 2013. This is a little project I was working on last fall. It is an 'N' scale. When the heck did this happen? Are you kidding me? The 'HO' was going to be set in the late '60s, with shorter engines and rolling stock, while the 'N' was going to be modern, with lots of big GE units. So let's continue. Yes, a Plastics Factory that receives pellets in large covered hoppers. It is based loosely on a project in Kalmbach's. HO Lineside Industries You Can Build. The trough between the two yellow...
