Leaf litter: Galbraith Lake - Brooks Range
http://musubk.blogspot.com/2015/06/galbraith-lake-brooks-range.html
Space and Earth science, nature, photography, travel, and things more or less related. Thursday, June 18, 2015. Galbraith Lake - Brooks Range. We did spot a moose with two calves in the middle of the road, about 4 miles north of the Yukon River. The calves were too slow or dumb to get out of the way and the cow was on the verge of charging my car to keep us away. Some past shots with the same perspective and lens:. Also, I got my 4x5 view camera out and shot a few pieces of film. Here's the group (mi...
Leaf litter: Svalbard / C-REX part 1
http://musubk.blogspot.com/2014/11/svalbard-c-rex-part-1.html
Space and Earth science, nature, photography, travel, and things more or less related. Saturday, November 22, 2014. Svalbard / C-REX part 1. Well hello folks. I'm writing from Longyearbyen, Svalbard:. The sign out the front door of the airport is interesting - 'You're a long way from everywhere, and try not to get eaten by a polar bear':. The Sun hasn't risen since I got here, and won't for another couple of months, but the place is quite pretty regardless:. And it will release 24 sub-payloads on the way...

Space and Earth science, nature, photography, travel, and things more or less related. Monday, February 2, 2015. Then it's really easy to figure out the 'right settings' for any random photo you want to take. Knob one is your aperture, knob two is your shutter speed, and knob three is the ISO. Depending on your camera they might literally be knobs or they might be menu selections, but they always do the same thing. Turn one of the knobs up. Still dark? Turn a knob down instead. They're just numbers on th...
Leaf litter: Pluto is or isn't a planet
http://musubk.blogspot.com/2014/10/pluto-is-or-isnt-planet.html
Space and Earth science, nature, photography, travel, and things more or less related. Friday, October 10, 2014. Pluto is or isn't a planet. Happened recently. Short version, some people are still upset about the 2009 redefinition of Pluto to 'not a planet'. Quoting from the article: "The decision did not sit well with the public. Some amateur stargazers and some astronomers thought it rather arbitrary." So they held some kind of vote and the audience voted to 'reinstate' Pluto as a planet. You can draw ...

Space and Earth science, nature, photography, travel, and things more or less related. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. This weekend I planned to take a kayak trip down the Delta River, from Tangle Lakes to just below Phelan Creek and Rainbow Ridge. But the weather forecast was bad, so at the last minute (inspired by this blog post. By the way, do you know the fast way to clean a spruce grouse? We walked on into town and started looking into the various cabins. Apparently this town once housed around 200...

Watch Sprite Lightning Flash at 10,000 frames Per Second - Universe Today
http://www.universetoday.com/103969/watch-sprite-lightning-flash-at-10000-frames-per-second
Space and astronomy news. Watch Sprite Lightning Flash at 10,000 frames Per Second. Article Updated: 23 Dec , 2015. Mysterious red sprite lightning is intriguing: sprites occur only at high altitudes above thunderstorms, only last for a thousandth of a second and emit light in the red portion of the visible spectrum. Therefore, studying sprites has been notoriously difficult for atmospheric scientists. Astrophotographer Jason Ahrns. Sprites usually appear as several clusters of red tendrils above a light...

http://physicsinalaska.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-woke-up-this-morning-and-went-to.html
Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Wednesday, November 16, 2011. When the weather outside is . . . I woke up this morning and went to the outhouse; it was pretty freaking cold outside. Cold and dark. The Sun is only out for a little over six hours today (rise at 9:29 am and sets at 3:41 pm). More importantly, it is cold! This picture was taken from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks up on the hill near the entrance to the ski trails. The optical effect here is called a light pillar caused...

So long summer sun. I can't believe that summer is gone already. It's always gone too quickly. But when look back on all the moments I captured this summer I realize it was quite a good one. Bring on that brisk fall air. Before and After: The exterior. I haven't posted about much of the renovation that we've done on our house because, aside from my studio. I also fell head over heels in love with Fallingwater. Yeah. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). So long summer sun. Before and After: The exterior.

Some dear friends of mine have been collaborating on a new project for a while now and I'm pleased to say that today is the release of their new album, Closer to Clear. I was thrilled when they asked me to create the artwork for the album, especially since I got the opportunity to try some new techniques along the way. You can purchase and listen to the album at http:/ linwood.bandcamp.com. Bedroom: Before and After. There's been a lot of remodeling happening in our house this winter. A tiny aluminum bir...
Cardboard Sea: Northern Exposure.
http://cherylandrey.blogspot.com/2007/12/northern-exposure.html
Being an only child, I spent more time with my parents when I was growing up than I did with other children. As a result, a lot of the television programs that I grew up on were not cartoons, but shows like Star Trek: Next Generation, This Old House, The Victory Garden,. I cannot help but wonder if my love for Northern Exposure. January 17, 2008 at 12:36 AM. Our library has it too and we spent all of August watching it from beginning to end! What a great show! Roslyn, Washington Cicely, Alaska. There's a feeling I get every time I go back to my hometown. It's a familiarity and sense of belonging despite the fact that I've been gone for a long stretch of time. Six months, a year, sometimes more. Things change, but overall it's the same town I know and love. This is the feeling I had when we arrived in Roslyn. S chair at KBHR, and getting my fill of the history of Roslyn. I can't wait to return someday. Snoqualmie and North Bend OR visiting Twin Peaks.
