My rationale | muteswann
https://muteswann.wordpress.com/2013/09/15/my-rationale
Thoughts from my head, mostly about politics, but also about gender, football, and books. Skip to primary content. September 15, 2013. Today I made a difficult decision. So I put my heart and soul into the job, and it almost killed me. Partly for reasons outlined elsewhere in this blog, and partly for other reasons, which will remain unspoken. But I knew my wee group in Scotland inspired others. We were feisty and kept environmental justice at the heart of our work. We never forgot, despite fundi...And w...

Thoughts from my head, mostly about politics, but also about gender, football, and books. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Newer posts →. June 14, 2013. I’ve been worrying about the motivations of the very media friendly, and column inch rich Enough Food IF campaign. So what is campaigning or activism, and what makes it a success? And I think my overarching problem with much of todays campaigning is that you have to buy in to a lot more than the cause in question. Take the IF campa...
Thoughts on political conferences.. | muteswann

Thoughts from my head, mostly about politics, but also about gender, football, and books. Skip to primary content. Thoughts on political conferences. April 6, 2012. So, my friend over at Burlesque Press. About attending a ‘must-go’ literary conference, and it led me to think I should post about political conferences. Additionally, if the venue is away from your place of residence you have to add on travel and accommodation costs (the latter of which strangely rise when conference is in town). So, I cough...
A wee update | muteswann

Thoughts from my head, mostly about politics, but also about gender, football, and books. Skip to primary content. March 29, 2014. It’s been a tough year. I’ve been up and down emotionally, and busy at work. I’m fine, life is moving along, but I haven’t felt terribly much like sharing. Anyway, as it’s Earth Hour I’ve been sharing my old post https:/ muteswann.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/whats-the-point-of-earth-hour/. I also wanted to say that despite the fact that I personally have some issues with some of...

Thoughts from my head, mostly about politics, but also about gender, football, and books. Skip to primary content. Further thoughts on political party conferences. September 15, 2013. Over a year ago, I posted this entry. About political party conferences. Having just experienced my first UK political party conference (rather than just a Scottish party conference), I have some additional thought which may or may not be of interest. And why was I chairing the meeting anyway? As mentioned, it costs a small...

I, Player: August 2012
http://ajsbell.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 22 August 2012. A ticket, apparently. I'll provide an update to this year's Fringe stats at the weekend, but in the meantime, here's some unsolicited advice to acts and venues from one who has seen an awful lot of Fringe shows. Cut, cut and cut again. Have you written a gimmick to get you through your hour? Cut it, it almost certainly isn't as funny as you are normally. Doing your first fringe hour? Chances are you've only got 45 minutes of good stuff. On the Free Fringe? Makes you sound like ...
I, Player: Fringe Frolics: part two
http://ajsbell.blogspot.com/2012/09/fringe-frolics-part-two.html
Sunday, 2 September 2012. Fringe Frolics: part two. Just a sample of the tickets I collected over the last month. So, the Fringe is well and truly behind us now. A full week has passed since I've had to write a 120 word review of anything and it's about time I wrapped up my Fringe stats. Now, I can't be bothered working out the coffee intake, or the junk food factor (let's just say both were WAAAAY too high), but I can tot up stars and shows easily enough. 45 ( 2 I paid to see). Of 1 star shows seen.
I, Player: The Curse Of The Average

Thursday, 8 August 2013. The Curse Of The Average. It's Fringe time again, and I’m reviewing for ThreeWeeks. Your best source for Fringe reviews, updated daily! Drop by and check out some more reviews once you're done. So, without further ado, let’s dive in with the first show I saw this year. ED2013 Comedy Review: Mark Dolan – You’re Awesome! Gilded Balloon Teviot, until 25 Aug (not 12), 7:45pm. Tw rating 3/5 [Andrew Bell]. After all this is said and done, you end up with a review that, like the show it...

Monday, 19 August 2013. I have a few rules of thumb when it comes to star ratings. Firstly, if there’s any doubt, it’s not a five star review. Second, if I’d have happily paid full price, it’s probably a four star. If it’s bad, but not so bad I wanted to leave/die/kill everyone involved with the entire production, their family, their friends, their friends’ pets and the bloke down the road who once lent them a fag, it’s a two star. Leave the theatre feeling actively homicidal, it’s a one star. Baddiel ma...
I, Player: Socialising The Stigmatisation Of Single Parents From 3+

Wednesday, 12 September 2012. Socialising The Stigmatisation Of Single Parents From 3. Or: I've Almost Certainly Thought Too Much About This But Dear God I've Watched This Episode Of Fireman Sam 20 Times And I'm Going Mental. For the most part, the characters of Fireman Sam are pretty standard children's TV fare. There's the dopey-but-likeable Elvis, the stuffy-but-likeable Officer Steele, the token-female-firefighter Penny, and, of course, our lantern jawed hero, Sam. I were making that up. Oh, hello...
I, Player: Turn, Turn, Turn
http://ajsbell.blogspot.com/2012/09/turn-turn-turn.html
Monday, 24 September 2012. Turn, Turn, Turn. A late start, a long day and an overcast sky filled with rain found me walking home in a contemplative mood this evening. Sodium lighting reflected off the rain slick street while traffic lights painted the pavement neon red and green and a cool, clean bite in the air nipped at my nose. Autumn has arrived, furtively, like a thief stealing in the back door. None of them, however, are as good as autumn. I always think this colour should be called pastel gold.

Thursday, 13 September 2012. Normalising Single Parenthood From 3. Or: I Totally Forgot About Postman Pat, Or: Well Done Cosgrove Hall. After my epic whinge about Fireman Sam yesterday, my friend Vic pointed out that Jeff Pringle, the school teacher in Postman Pat, is a single dad looking after his son, Charlie. Plus Sarah Gilbertson and her mother, Dr Gilbertson, with whom PC Selby has a delightfully bumbling will-they-won't-they romance:. And, when I come to think of it, I. Hang on! And you know what?

http://ajsbell.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 6 January 2012. On Your Marks, Get Set, Batman! One of the things I learnt during my confusingly longer than three weeks stint at ThreeWeeks. Was that if you want to write for a living, you have to actually write. But lets just see how it goes. And I promise to actually keep it up this time. (Said the vicar to the nun.) With that said, lets dive straight in with a bit of video game criticism. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. On Your Marks, Get Set, Batman!

Wednesday, 14 July 2010. A kite is a tethered aircraft. The necessary lift that makes the kite wing fly is generated when air (or in some cases water). Flows over and under the kite's wing, producing low pressure above the wing and high pressure below it. This deflection also generates horizontal drag along the direction of the wind. The resultant force vector from the lift and drag force components is opposed by the tension of the one or more lines or tethers. Kite landboarding, kite buggying. Mute Swan...

Mute Swan Truth
Mute swan truth.ca. June 13, 2012. A lot has happened in the recent past with regards to our featherly little friends by Lake Ontario. I would like to thank you for your support and continue to ask you to invite friends and family to the petition (on the left side of this page) to be a voice for these beautiful creatures. The Toronto Star did a great article, and a portion of it and the link to the full article is below. A few additional links are to a disturbing video of hunters killing Swans for fun.
