Distress Tolerance: Pros & Cons | Beauty and the Borderline

Beauty and the Borderline. A Journey towards Integration. Distress Tolerance: Pros & Cons. Pros and Cons is one of my favourite skills, because it helps you to make it through crisis situations, and to focus on your long-term goals. (I consider it the first of the Dialectical Skills, because it’s a wonderful introduction to looking at an issue from all sides, and it can be especially effective during a “splitting” crisis.). Thinking of PROS and CONS. By Marsha Linehan, p. 169. The first time you use Pros...

Half of a Soul – Life with BPD. Borderline Personality Disorder from the inside out. What I Wanted to Say. October 23, 2016. What I truly regret not saying are the unspoken words of love, forgiveness, admiration, and truth. Why should it be hard to say those? I’m not sure – but I find myself totally incapable of speaking them. The most frustrating part about it? For me, that feeling, that wound, will always be the memory of the way that I treated you over the years of our friendship. Feel like my other h...

Half of a Soul – Life with BPD. Borderline Personality Disorder from the inside out. Neuroplasticity: the good and the bad. April 19, 2015. I’ve written on here before about neuroplasticity. Between the parts in your head. So yeah, pretty important stuff. But as the months have gone by, I’ve noticed another way that neuroplasticity has affected me. Despite my clear awareness of how much computer time/technology affects my mental health. Is my computer usage actually making me “stupider”? 5 thoughts on &l...

BPD Bunny: December 2012

Friday, 28 December 2012. The Up-Sides Of Mental Illness: Compassion. Recently, a friend shared with me a practice he's been using at the end of each day to boost his confidence, mood and sense of self. Interestingly, this friend is of good mental health, but still finds it necessary to work on "improving moments" from time to time. The technique is something most of us have probably heard of in one form or another. It's to list three things at the end of each day that you are grateful for. But my first ...

Half of a Soul – Life with BPD. Borderline Personality Disorder from the inside out. Monthly Archives: May 2015. Fighting the good fight. May 27, 2015. Anyway, I didn’t really expect reducing my medication to have a noticeable effect. I think deep down, part of me still believed that these tiny pills can’t have any actual physical effect on something as intangible as mood/depression. Allow me to utterly and completely obliterate any vestige of that belief. Now I know better. Seems simple enough, right?

Half of a Soul – Life with BPD. Borderline Personality Disorder from the inside out. DBT Technique: Opposite Action. September 9, 2013. Borderline personality disorder often goes hand-in-hand with a lot of bewildering contradictions (hence the term “borderline” in reference to the division of the personality):. Too-close emotional relationships versus far-too-distant relationships. Over-the-top feelings of love and sentimentality versus over-the-top feelings of rage and hate;. In a nutshell,. If you feel...
