Intro to This Project. Monday, March 24, 2014. I came across this ad in the August 1954 Ladies' Home Journal. May I just take a second to say.WHAT IS THAT? It looks like a torture device from the Middle Ages I know they wore corsets back in the 1800's, but this is from 1954. Women were still wearing this stuff. Shoot, do women still. Should I be wearing something like this? This ad says that if I buy their product, I can have that "girdle off" feeling anytime. That's so great! I don't wear a girdle.
