Notes from the Holler: Lyme disease comes to the Holler
http://notesfromtheholler.blogspot.com/2015/06/lyme-disease-comes-to-holler.html
June 25, 2015. Lyme disease comes to the Holler. Earlier this spring, we (and by "we" I mainly mean "Seth") removed two ticks off Cael's head at two different times. He's an active boy who enjoys running around outside and exploring down by our creek. After the second tick was found and dispatched, I ordered several (6) bottles of Evada-Bug Spray. It had served us well last summer, keeping most of the chiggers and ticks at bay, and I realized we were entering the season when we would need it again. But I...

Notes from the Holler: October 2014
http://notesfromtheholler.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
October 23, 2014. Our excitement for the day. Today started out like most other Thursdays - I took Kieran to his speech and occupational therapies at his school and then returned home. Since Seth had had a torn meniscus in his knee repaired on Tuesday afternoon, he was still home recovering from the surgery. So, I set Kieran and Seth up with some schoolwork to practice while I started washing dishes and putting things away. I ran back inside and tried to call 911 but realized our phone wasn't working for...

Notes from the Holler: February 2015

February 27, 2015. How I met your father, part 24. The Interview with Seth. The Trip to England. The Interview with Seth (part 2). The Memorial Day Picnic. Dear favorite offspring,. Apart from the extra sheets and towels that always come in handy. On top of that, your dad wasn't overly interested in looking for things to register for. I finally talked him into it and we went off to Target to browse the aisles and see what we could find. And people showed up. Which was even more. By that time, we were thr...

Notes from the Holler: May 2015
http://notesfromtheholler.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
May 28, 2015. Cael graduates (from preschool). Cael's first year of school (preschool) has come to an end. We celebrated with a picnic in the park with his classmates on Wednesday. Mrs Karla let everyone try on their graduation caps. Somehow Kieran finagled one, too. He's good at the finagling thing, I've found. Tonight was the "program." Cael was very excited to attend his graduation program, and if you've been around him lately, you've probably heard about it. The Lady of the Holler. May 27, 2015.

Notes from the Holler: August 2015
http://notesfromtheholler.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
August 3, 2015. Until I looked at the eggs he'd brought in and realized that we did, indeed, have a new layer. When a hen first starts laying, the eggs are smaller. They gradually increase in size until they reach their max size after a few months. And one of the eggs was definitely smaller than the others. It was even more clear when I cracked them for my morning omelette. Kieran went out the other day to check on them and decided to play tag with them. "Tag, you're it! The Lady of the Holler. What is w...

Notes from the Holler: November 2014
http://notesfromtheholler.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
November 16, 2014. We celebrated Kieran's sixth year of life the other day. Since he loves pumpkin-related foods, I thought I'd make him a pumpkin roll for his birthday. But that morning, he opened up one of my cookbooks and found a picture that reminded him of peanut butter pie and requested that for his "cake.". Aunt Katy was visiting with us that day and she whipped up a delicious peanut butter pie in no time. Our family - including cousins Trent and Heather - came over to celebrate with him. What is ...

Notes from the Holler: Can you see it?
http://notesfromtheholler.blogspot.com/2015/07/can-you-see-it.html
July 28, 2015. Can you see it? I saw it. This morning, when I let the chickens out of the coop, which protects them from the bobcats and raccoons and coyotes. And in the fact that we even have. Chickens in the first place. I saw it when we went for a walk down the lane. I saw it in the abundance of beautifully designed greenery for us to enjoy - an amazing variety of trees and birds and insects. And I saw it in the thorns that grew right alongside the pretty wildflowers. I saw it in little boy struggling...

Notes from the Holler: January 2015

January 31, 2015. How I met your father, part 4. My darling children,. As we continue the story of how your father and I met, let me introduce you to Frost. Frost and I had worked together for several years and had become friends. Frost was also friends with your father. They went to the same church and - here's fun part - Frost's brother (Uncle Troy) is married to your dad's sister (Aunt Ruth). Did you catch that? Read it again, if you need to. So, what I’m wondering is: have you met him? I'm sure I als...
