Susan was born and raised in Badin. She is an alumnus of Pfeiffer and UNCC with degrees in early childhood and intermediate education. She is also recognized as a Nationally Certified Teacher. Susan grew up surrounded with natural storytellers who painted vivid mental stories for her; her paternal grandmother, her father and mother, neighbors and relatives. Heather Ross Miller, part of a well-known North Carolina writing family, has published numerous novels, collections of short stories and poems. Some of her works include: The Edge of the Woods, Tenants of the House, Gone a Hundred Miles, Champeen, Crusoe's Island: The Story of a Writer and a Place, and The Creative Writing Murders. Miller was a featured storyteller at both the 2010 and 2011 Uwharrie Storytelling Festival held in Albemarle. Her unique storytelling style always captivates her audience.
