My textile adventure

Monday, June 10, 2013. Part 5: Project 10 - What have you achieved? I can honestly say that I have enjoyed this project, although looking through my notes, my research, my samples and my final piece, I know that I should have done more. I started off well and found that my trip to Jakarta was full of inspiration. At that point I should have looked back at the course notes and reminders a lot more than I did. Some of the things that were on my list of 'to try out' and explore further was the use of resin.

My textile adventure: May 2011

http://mytextileadventure.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 6, 2011. Part One: Project 2 - Stage 5. Saturday 30th April 2011 - Stitches which Create Texture. In Stage 5 we are asked to use stitches which create texture and to explore the effects of the stitch, to vary the density and create rich effects. Initially I used hand embroidery. The stitch chosen was satin stitch. Stretched on an embroidery hoop. This is the first sample. I worked blocks of stitches in a horizontal direction, against blocks of stitches worked in a vertical direction. The roug...

Sunday, January 29, 2012. Part One: Project 2 - What have I achieved? I think I have achieved quite a lot! I am sitting with my work around me; some of it is mounted, some of it awaits that process so that I can display it easily in my workbook. But.it is all finished. The next project looms! Do I feel happy with the work? Do I prefer working with stitch to drawing? Can I begin to see the relationship between the two? I enjoy working with both stitch and drawing.I feel the two are compatible. I think, al...

Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Part Two: Project 5 - What have I achieved? I have enjoyed project 5. It took the drawing through to the design, and then, from the design to a finished sample in a simple progression. Did I feel that I made a good selection from my drawings to use as source material for my design ideas? I felt happy with the selection of drawings that I chose as source material for my design ideas. There was a lot of potential in each of the original sketches. Which fabrics did I choose? Is there ...

My textile adventure: February 2012

http://mytextileadventure.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Part Two: Project 3 - Stage 6. Combining Textures and Colour Effects. Stage 6 looks at the work of the impressionist painters and their use of a technique called Pointillism. This system is the basis of colour printing where dots or colours seem to merge to make new colours. I went to see impressionist paintings at the Fitzwilliam Museum. When I lived near Cambridge. My other favourite art destination in Cambridge is Kettle's Yard. You can see clearly the daubs of colour tha...

My textile adventure: May 2012

http://mytextileadventure.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Part Two: Project 5 - Stage 2. Knowing that I really enjoyed the painting and printing exercises in the Interlude, why am I reluctant to select my design ideas for Stages 2 - 4? It could be because I put my work down for a couple of weeks and lost my 'flow' - my family filled the house over Easter, I worked, and then I tidied it all away. big mistake. It could be fear - but I thought I was over that now. So, I have got out my work from Stage 4 of Project 4. Shell 3: I like the textu...

This time I will try another sample of colour analysis from a photograph. I tend to work intuitively rather than by analysis of the concepts of colour and techniques other than collage. Part Two and Part Three. Learning Log: Part One – Tutors Report. Learning Log: Part Three – Tutors Report. Learning Log: Part Two – Tutors Report. This time I will try another sample of colour analysis from a photograph. Water colours have a serenity about them when being applied which helps me to develop a fairly standard format as suggested in the lessons but I want to vary my way of analysing colour perhaps by trying a drawing/sketch and using a variety of materials and fibres. A different material su...
