The Vancouver Contrarian: September 2007
http://vancouvercontrarian.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
WEEKLY CHARITY DISBURSED AND DISCUSSED. Sunday, September 23, 2007. CDN$ up or US$ down? Canadians are thrilled at the rising value of the loonie against the greenback. For some reason, this becomes a point of national pride. All sorts of media hype on this. This story has nothing to do with Canadians or our dollar . I think this is a story about the US economy. And the bellyaching about the price of books: it's not that Canadian prices are too high, quite likely the American prices are way too low.

The Vancouver Contrarian: Pride
http://vancouvercontrarian.blogspot.com/2008/01/pride.html
WEEKLY CHARITY DISBURSED AND DISCUSSED. Wednesday, January 2, 2008. Fresh off a fairly sizable donation to the Vivian, I've been feeling mighty proud of myself. Fact is, it hasn't been all that pretty. I loudly and proudly expel the guy from the store. Ha! Very richous. Or was is it? I'm not saying I shouldn't have done something, but clearly I've got to be more careful, think a little better. This week's support to the Carnegie Newsletter. April 18, 2008 at 3:02 PM. The Vancouver Contrarian: Information Equity Now!
http://vancouvercontrarian.blogspot.com/2007/11/information-equity-now.html
WEEKLY CHARITY DISBURSED AND DISCUSSED. Sunday, December 9, 2007. Ok I've been living. For about a week now and, well, it's really complicated. Consider the following situations:. Situation 1: Say I give nothing. There is no financial transaction, no externalities, and no offset is required. Everything equal but nobody's happy. Move on to situation 2. Situation 3: Say I give a something other than money. Recognizing the total cost of a purchase presents lots of question:. What information is available?

The Vancouver Contrarian: Minimum Wage in BC
http://vancouvercontrarian.blogspot.com/2007/11/minimum-wage-in-bc.html
WEEKLY CHARITY DISBURSED AND DISCUSSED. Sunday, November 4, 2007. Minimum Wage in BC. The BC Federation of Labour. Has launched a campaign to increase the minimum wage in BC. Now I'm perfectly willing to be persuaded on this, but their arguments are . well . predictable, and not all that convincing. Besides my own work experience, what's to keep me from thinking the BC Fed campaign is really needed? What's to keep me from thinking there's anything to this minimum wage argument at all? But such theory als...

The Vancouver Contrarian: The Vivian
http://vancouvercontrarian.blogspot.com/2007/12/vivian.html
WEEKLY CHARITY DISBURSED AND DISCUSSED. Saturday, December 22, 2007. I first heard about the Vivian. Last year I made a contribution to the Vivian, but immediately felt some regret in doing so. I worry about the enabling aspects of "high tolerance" shelter. I felt that my next donations might involve treatment and recovery centres, or maybe a group home. One year later, and I guess I've rethought this again. There are two reasons:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). FT: A measured approach.

April 21, 2008 at 1:10 am ( Uncategorized. I am grateful to my mother for always having pets in our home. Cats, dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, fish, turtles – you name it we had it. Except the monkey. And this was in the city, nowhere near any farms! I don’t have any memory of how the animals came to live with us. They were just always there. My Mom always called them our four legged friends. My daughter just got a hamster so it was one of those full circle moments for me. April 21, 2008 at 3:59 pm.
