Race Week/Day Tips – from beginnertriathlete.com. This isn’t the time to do long, hard runs and rides. Reduce your volume by about 30 percent. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the race, warm up, then do some steady, short efforts that bring you up to race speed. Take Thursday off altogether. The day before your race, exercise enough to break a sweat, 15 to 20 minutes. At least 2 days before, pump tires, and go over your bike thoroughly. Are your goggles leaking, or do they suck? Balloon, flag, etc.

We are almost through week 4 – aka recovery week. Recovery week doesn’t mean you sit around and eat junk all week, it just means you scale down the training load slightly to give your body a slight break. The idea is to make you come back stronger next week. Monday: 300 yd swim, 2 mile run (fast pace). Wednesday: 8-10 mile bike. Friday: 300 yd swim, 3 mile run.
