Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. Saarland University, Saarbrücken/Germany. Molecular Biology of Myxobacteria. Myxobacteria are soil-living microorganisms which are increasingly recognized as producers of secondary metabolites. A number of these compounds are of significant interest both to natural products researchers and the pharmaceutical industry. Our efforts to understand the biosynthesis of these metabolites focus on their respective gene clusters and the encoded enzyme systems.
