The world's most unplanned adventure. I’m heading off for a year… I don’t really know where exactly but I know it’s going to be awesome! During the year I’ll be volunteering, visiting friends and, of course, seeing lots of new and exciting places. This blog is a place to share my stories and photos- I hope you enjoy reading it! Camping in Cornwall | timetosmile

The world's most unplanned adventure. July 30, 2013. After a few days on the farm we set off to try out the new rooftop tent rig around the coast of Cornwall. The coastline is quite impressive in its own right with looming cliffs and lighthouses, however my favourite part was walking through the old port towns dating back to the beginning of time, and full of beautiful pubs, shops, seagulls and fishing boats. Today we’re off again to catch the ferry over the channel tonight- bring on the baguettes!

The world's most unplanned adventure. December 7, 2012. First stop: Cambodia. Time to give back to a country that’s given me so much- laughter, dreams, purpose, compassion. I wonder who I’d be today if I hadn’t traveled- I don’t really want… Continue reading →. Blog at WordPress.com.
Auschwitz-Birkenau | timetosmile

The world's most unplanned adventure. August 11, 2013. It’s hard to prepare for a visit to these camps. So much is known about them and they are almost familiar already, but there is a sense of dread at experiencing the reality of what’s behind the barbed wire. Flashes of books and films came to me around the camps. The awful game in Life is Beautiful. And the children hiding in the latrines. The scene from The Pianist. The railway inside Birkenau. 4 thoughts on “ Auschwitz-Birkenau. The photos you have ...

The world's most unplanned adventure. March 15, 2013. The best of the bad translations. It started with Beef Nasil, Asian Driving School and Massage Excellent Hand; and by the time I’d seen Cambodian Lamenting Fish on a menu I knew I had to make this blog. So… Continue reading →. A story of honour and ouzo. A life not examined is a life not lived – Socrates. This is the section where I like to put writings, pictures and so on that have particularly moved me to wonder, awe or, occassionally incredulity, but aren’t neccesarily connected to my walkabouts – some are re-postings from blogs – either mine or some-one else’s. Just go to the sub-menu above, or follow the links below. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:.

An English garden in spring | Walkabouts and wonders

A story of honour and ouzo. A life not examined is a life not lived – Socrates. An English garden in spring. Yes, it’s true. I have been around the world and been to so many places that have really stirred the soul. Now that the jet-lag is gone and the first few days chores are done, I can write about more of them. But, before that, here’s a glimpse of the specialness that emerges in an English spring. First flowers of spring. Larr; Welcome to Canada. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

A story of honour and ouzo. A life not examined is a life not lived – Socrates. Dreams of the Whanganui. The start of the Whanganui river road. Abandoned farm on the West bank. For weddings and funerals, even those marae that remain are little used otherwise. What you want to come all that way to this little place for? Part of the carvings rescued by Gilbert’s uncle. Pipiriki – the end of the road – only boats go further north. Post script: A week later, I walked into the Auckland Art Gallery, to find th...
Welcome to Canada | Walkabouts and wonders
https://jrharries.wordpress.com/2014/02/27/welcome-to-canada
A story of honour and ouzo. A life not examined is a life not lived – Socrates. While in Toronto, my niece took me along to a minor league ice hockey game, between the Toronto Marlies and some American team. Fast, exciting, and full of a kind of incidental violence which may go some way to explaining why Canadians are so polite. For once, I got the settings nearly right and these two shots are from the game. I’m British – how would I know? Not often you see a huddle of umpires…. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
Eyes | Walkabouts and wonders
https://jrharries.wordpress.com/wonders-2/eyes
A story of honour and ouzo. A life not examined is a life not lived – Socrates. Often I sit in the kitchen at the beginning of the day and cast my mind over what is important to me, that day. Mostly, it’s very predictable and mundane, but occasionally, something a little bit special intrudes. Of course, there are those whose eyes are empty, but I do not speak of them. Skip to main content. Skip to primary sidebar. Skip to secondary sidebar. NakitaJay's Soap Box. Posted by NakitaJay Poet. Today my mind is in thought. My heart, heavy. I know that if not for the driving forces of nature I would not stay planted like oak tree. I’m not always able to navigate easily, somedays I pivot. Turning and moving around my problems instead of away from them. It must be a sin to feel the obligation to explain my pain away. This has to be the way we learned to laugh at the pain. Poste...
