The National Anguilla Club was formed for eel angling specialist in 1962. It is one of the longest, if not the longest continuously running specimen groups ever formed. The eight founder members were AJ Sutton, G Moss, J Larly, N Game, J G Bellamy, J Gibbinson, J Smith, and K Dickens. The club has a structured set of rules and a constitution. Environmental issues. During this time the male eels grow to an average size of 40 cm and the females to 70 cm. The oldest recorded eel reached age 84, and the current UK record is 11lb 2ozs. Any eel in excess of 4lb is considered to be a specimen, and fish in excess of this weight are not plentiful. Buying a tub of jellied eels or a pack of eel sections for bait doesn't help either, because we feed the commercial operation, which operates on a supply and demand basis.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Bridgewater Canal fish-in 15/11/09. This season's event on the Bridgewater Canal was a great success, with nine PAC members and eleven Warrington AA members taking part. There were two pike of 13 lbs. caught, along with three more fish around the 7 lb. mark; all taken on deadbaits. Yours truly weighed in with another three jacks, all taken on Salmo Slider jerkbaits. Joe Leathwood puts his dad to shame with this fit 12 lb. pike, which put up a real scrap after snaffling a couple of lobworms on a single hook (don't let Joe try and convince you he was pike fishing at the time!
