Et Cetera!: November 2011
http://dineshjipmer.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 27, 2011. Four months since my last post. This is a symptom of a disease I have, a chronic case of Procrastinatus. To keep the ball rolling on this rather cobweb-infested blog of mine, I have a few pictures I want to share today. The following pictures are of the watchtower that stands above the Paro Rinpung Dzong. You must be thinking I'm overdosing you on the whole "Paro Love-affair" thing, well, I can't help it. Ta-Dzong as seen from the Paro Tshechu grounds. Since the Ta-Dzong was es...

A(nother) Year in Bhutan: Milestones
http://yearinbhutan.blogspot.com/2013/09/milestones.html
A(nother) Year in Bhutan. Push forward to the end of 2012, and I've earned an advanced degree in a field I adore. Ever since I dropped out of nursing school as an undergrad, I followed my passion: art history. Who knew where it would end up taking me? Honestly: who in the world ever thought that I'd spend so much time in Bhutan? That I would be awarded grants that would allow me to volunteer in Paro and Thimphu for three years (so far)? International cuisine has arrived in Paro! The only speaking that to...

A(nother) Year in Bhutan: October 2013

A(nother) Year in Bhutan. Bhutan in summer: When even the dogs turn green. Don't go to Bhutan in the summer! Hotels are packed, roads are crowded, everyone is jockeying for position to get that 'perfect' shot of the festival dancer.I can't help but feel like they miss so very much of what makes Bhutan such a phenomenal place. Bhutan in summer can provide a much more meaningful experience. I love Bhutan in the summertime. (Full disclosure: I love Bhutan in winter, too.). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A(nother) Year in Bhutan: September 2012
http://yearinbhutan.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
A(nother) Year in Bhutan. Last weekend, a new thongdrol. Appeared in Paro, delivered direct from Semtokha Dzong in Thimphu. A thongdrol is a large appliqué that is displayed on the sides of buildings or, for the very monumental in size, on the side of a mountain. Its name means “liberation upon sight,” meaning that once the faithful see the image, they will have a good rebirth in the next life. Friendly Parops allowing me to take their picture. Thimphu's best kept shopping secret. For those seeking tradi...

A(nother) Year in Bhutan: Paro Tsechu
http://yearinbhutan.blogspot.com/2011/09/paro-tsechu.html
A(nother) Year in Bhutan. The colorful crowds of Paro Tsechu. Okay- this one is way old (from April! But I found it sitting in draft and am publishing it nonetheless, six months after the fact. So this year I'll share a bit more about tsechu culture, at least how I've experienced it in Paro. Tenzin, yours truly and Dorje on day four. Note: Only a member of this blog may post a comment. A(nother) Year in Bhutan: April 2012
http://yearinbhutan.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
A(nother) Year in Bhutan. Paro Tsechu is one of the most well-known and well-attended festivals in Bhutan, with thousands of people pouring in to witness the five days of festivities. Just twenty minutes away is the cliffside complex of Dzongdrakha. The biggest draw takes place the day after Paro Tsechu has finished, after the Paro Thongdrol. Entire cliffside complex from a distance. While we were looking, the atsaras announced it was almost time for the festivities to start and urged us to start on our ...
