A Nature Art Journal in Southwest Florida: Catching up…
http://natureartjournal.blogspot.com/2015/03/catching-up.html
Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Time has been slipping by so quickly – which is what happens when you are busy! In Florida, our busy season reflects an increase in population when our winter visitors flood the city and beaches. So I’ve been busy on several other fronts, which leaves me little time for sketching and posting. So…maybe I can catch up here! Here’s an update if you’re interested. Butterflies, gardens and nature journals. In November I was invited to speak at the 14. I love the mix of perspectives: a...
A Nature Art Journal in Southwest Florida: Where are my images?
http://natureartjournal.blogspot.com/2014/10/where-are-my-images.html
Monday, October 20, 2014. Where are my images? When I linked this blog to my Google profile, some of my images disappeared from this blog. No warning, no display box, no choices to make. So please bear with me while I begin the laborious process of re-connecting my images with the appropriate blog post. Posted by Elizabeth Smith. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Why a nature art journal? The natural environment around me serves many purposes. Observation combined with drawing and writing is the ultima...

Friday, July 17, 2015. Sketching with friends Freedom Park. Ink and watercolor pencil sketches from the boardwalk. Even though it's July, I wanted to catch up and share a sketching trip to Freedom Park. In July with friends. The springtime blooms faded, summer flowers were filling up the nooks of bright green foliage. This is along the wetlands side of the park, all seen from the boardwalk. On the opposite page I made notes, and all the memories flooded back. Birds seen and heard:. The captivating red/br...

A Nature Art Journal in Southwest Florida: Mistflower
http://natureartjournal.blogspot.com/2009/09/mistflower.html
Sunday, September 20, 2009. Originally uploaded by Elizabeth Smith. Pale violet colors are tricky to paint, so I did some test color charts beforehand to get a feeling for the best combinations. Glad I did! It may be hard to tell on your screen, but the Opera Rose and Manganese Blue yielded clear and bright mixes that were most like the bloom color. I’ll save these for reference later! Clicking on the top image will allow you to see it larger on my Flickr photostream. Posted by Elizabeth Smith. Subscribe...

You cannot open any door or window unless you are wearing the Magic Apron. The Tin Woodman of Oz. Chapter 7, The Lace Apron. Now,” said the Canary, in a tone more brisk than before, “we may talk together more freely, as Mrs. Yoop cannot hear us. Perhaps we can figure out a way to escape.”. 8221; said Woot the Monkey, still facing the door; but his command had no effect and he slowly rejoined the others. 8220;What Magic Apron do you mean? 8221; asked the Tin Owl, in a curious voice. 8220;I’ll try it!
Chez Dee: Displaying my art at work
http://writepaintsketch.blogspot.com/2012/06/displaying-my-art-at-work.html
Monday, June 18, 2012. Displaying my art at work. My introduction to book arts came in 1997 when I worked at Whitman College, with a week-long class taught by Gary Frost, and I haven't looked at a book in the same way since. What a marvellous technology the simple codex is! Dee's works on display. Coptic sewing - a model. This was a model that I used when teaching to demonstrate how easy it is to add interest to a binding. Sun, grass, sea. Grass that is lush, green, and long. This colored-pencil painting...

That's an achievement, no matter how you look at it. Enduring love, an example of loyalty, strong values, and commitment. Thanks, Mom and Dad! Oh yes, I also painted a planter. The real one is a bit more squat than this, but I'm pleased with this pen-and-ink work. What Color is Orange? Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Very fa...

Sunday, April 18, 2010. Omething about nail polish must have fascinated me. I really like this painting in spite of the technical problems with it. I do recall having FUN and really getting into the creative zone while doing this. Sunday, April 11, 2010. How polished are you? I'm having fun using colored paper. Two recent efforts are of nail polish. The hardest part of this? Using paper that's not quite. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Blogs I try to follow. Cathy Johnson Fine Art Galleries.

http://writepaintsketch.blogspot.com/2012/11/my-clapochet-just-in-time-for-fall.html
Monday, November 12, 2012. My clapochet - just in time for fall. I can't believe that it's already nearly mid-November. Where has the time gone? I finally finished this clapochet last night, having begun it in (ahem) December 2011! It feels and looks really nice. I'll post information on Ravelry eventually, but here are some key facts: Yarn: Paton's lace "Midas" (85g, 498 yards, and I used almost the entire skein); Hook: Boye F (5 mm), crocheted very. Sunday, July 24, 2011. Bought Cathy Johnson's new book, Artist's Journal Workshop. When it first came out - downloaded it straight to my Kindle. It's awesome! Last night when I did this to see what came out. Here's the upside-down version of the map as well, to make the other bits easy to read. Labels: Artists Journal Workshop. Sunday, July 10, 2011.
