Update – How Everybody is Doing | Adventures in Hydroculture
https://hydrocassie.wordpress.com/2010/07/29/update-how-everybody-is-doing
Documenting my journey through the land of hyrdogardening. Update – How Everybody is Doing. Sago is a happy camper in his hydroballs. He gets lots of morning sun in his eastern facing window and apparently he’s quite happy. He has sprouted seven new palm fronds that are opening beautifully! Vrissy is looking as lovely as ever and has had a baby! I’ll let the little one grow a bit bigger before separating them. Well, when I started transplanting my other plants, I picked up a bottle of MiracleGro QuickSta...

The Not So Flowering Cactus | Adventures in Hydroculture
https://hydrocassie.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/the-not-so-flowering-cactus
Documenting my journey through the land of hyrdogardening. The Not So Flowering Cactus. I’ve never purchased a cactus before. I once had a traumatic experience with one. As a teenager, I worked for a cleaning company. I was cleaning a house full of houseplants, including little cacti, when one was knocked from the table. I saw something falling and, reacting quickly and without thinking, I reached out to grab it. Yea, bad idea. Update – How Everybody is Doing. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are commenti...

Chicago Northern Exposure: TUSCON, ARIZONA!!!
http://chicagonorthernexposure.blogspot.com/2010/06/tuscon-arizona.html
Chronicling the adventure of gardening in a northern window. Friday, June 4, 2010. Sunny, sandy, and cactus-y! Current immigration politics aside, Tuscon is a mecca for those interested in C S, and I was finally able to visit and see some incredible plants. We stayed at the new, beautiful, and running-ridiculously-cheap-specials-on-room-rates Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain Resort Hotel (before you judge, we booked the flights and rooms before the AZ legislation debacle became national news). Brought in the v...

Chicago Northern Exposure: July 2010
http://chicagonorthernexposure.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Chronicling the adventure of gardening in a northern window. Friday, July 23, 2010. My first orchid- bloomed by yours, truly! This spring, actually on my first post, I noticed a bud. It took about a month for the bud to form the flower, but it was so worth the wait. Enjoy! Tantalizingly slow in opening. Here's the whole plant.lookin' fine! And, finally, my attempt at a macro image of the flower. I think this plant is gorgeous! Thursday, July 22, 2010. We are blooming and putting out new growth again!

Chicago Northern Exposure: OH, THE DEVASTATION!!!!
http://chicagonorthernexposure.blogspot.com/2010/07/oh-devastation.html
Chronicling the adventure of gardening in a northern window. Thursday, July 8, 2010. OH, THE DEVASTATION! Behold, the reason for my infrequent posts! I can think of few other pests that beleaguer indoor gardeners as frequently and as tenaciously as the mealybug.except maybe spider mites. Maybe it's a tie, and they both lose. I had my first experience with mealybugs last year when I took home a beautiful Maranta. My prayer plant ( Maranta. I purchased a wonderful little Huernia. But I think it is probably.

More to Learn – A Look at a Book | Adventures in Hydroculture
https://hydrocassie.wordpress.com/2010/08/01/more-to-learn-–-a-look-at-a-book
Documenting my journey through the land of hyrdogardening. More to Learn A Look at a Book. The indoor Water Gardner’s How-To Handbook written and illustrated by Peter Loewer. This flies in the face of everything I have learned about hydroculture. So how could it be that these plants survive with no oxygen? Both plants have been submerged for several days and are showing no signs of stress or damage. I check them every day, concerned they will meet the same fate as the Maters and Nanners. Now I wo...I als...

Chicago Northern Exposure: August 2010
http://chicagonorthernexposure.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Chronicling the adventure of gardening in a northern window. Sunday, August 1, 2010. My beleaguered Huernia is finally starting to put out flowers. I still think it is a Huernia confusa due to the mottling of the annulus and the broken horizontal bands on the.uh.petals? No smell on this one, thankfully. It's a crazy looking flower, but I love it! The texture is firm and waxy, like plastic: it looks and feels fake.but it. A little shot of my currently blooming Asclepiadaceae . Chicago Northern Exposure: Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
http://chicagonorthernexposure.blogspot.com/2010/07/arizona-sonora-desert-museum.html
Chronicling the adventure of gardening in a northern window. Thursday, July 1, 2010. Cacti and succulents GALORE- not to mention some really cute desert critters. We found a rare crested Saguaro by the entrance to the outdoor museum, which was just starting to flower. In fact, when we arrived in Tucson, all the Saguaros were covered in buds, which began blooming profusely during our stay. There were hundreds of thousands of Saguaros EVERYWHERE! Those arm like branches just seem to wave hello! Subscribe t...
