Thursday, September 3, 2009. Wednesday, September 2, 2009. The same concept happened in The Triumph of the Will. The Triumph of the Will. Was to make Hitler stand out as a grand singularity above the masses, but because he is as much of a scripted part of the documentary as any other person that appears in The Triumph of the Will. He is another cog of the mass ornament. Tuesday, September 1, 2009. So when I saw the movie I was inclined to think that many of the shots, particularly of men in uniform, coul...

Nazi Cinema: Readings: 11/15/09 - 11/22/09

Thursday, November 19, 2009. Wednesday, November 18, 2009. In doing the readings for this week, I was struck by how differently Schulte-Sasse and Rentschler interpreted this film. To make a very broad generalization, Schulte-Sasse reads Münchhausen. As a subversive, anti-Nazi movie and reads the main character as Jewish, while Rentschler reads Münchhausen. I Thought I'd Be Welcomed with Turkish Coffee". Tuesday, November 17, 2009. The Narrative Framework of Munchausen. Posted by Anna Muenchrath.

Nazi Cinema: Readings: die Weiße Rose
http://nazicinemareadings.blogspot.com/2009/12/die-weie-rose.html
Wednesday, December 2, 2009. 22 February [1943] Hans and Sophie Scholl, prominent members of the 'White Rose' resistance group are executed.' [Rentschler 263]. I didn't know what the White rose even was, so it naturally caught my attention. The White Rose was composed mostly of students, and a few professors at the University of Munich who wrote and printed leaflets that were decidedly anti nazi. I am impressed with the courage [or perhaps idealistic naivete] of these students. Although it may appear...

Nazi Cinema: Readings: March 1, 1942
http://nazicinemareadings.blogspot.com/2009/12/march-1-1942.html
Wednesday, December 2, 2009. March 1, 1942. March 1, 1942, Goebbels wrote in his diary, “Even entertainment can be politically of special value, because the moment a person is conscious of propaganda, propaganda becomes ineffective.” [Rentschler, 259]. I found the timing of this entry interesting, as it is clear at this point that Goebbels knew the power of propaganda but also how necessary it was going to be in the near future. . His entertainment was most certainly going to have to be goods and of spe...

Top 10 Reasons Why Hitlerjunge Quex is Better Propaganda than Kuhle Wampe. 10 Continuity Editing, enough said. 8 Heini is much cuter than Fritz. 7 “Quex” also sounds cooler than “Comrade”. 6 The death of the mother is always a good plot element (watch Disney’s Bambi if you don’t believe me). 5 In a country that is being forced to pay reparations to the rest of the continent, internationalism is probably not going to be very popular. 4 Big budgets Small budgets. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. I'm not sure I get it. Searching for a Nazi theme. I thought it was interesting how Koepnick addressed the acceptance of the American Western as an acceptance of modernism. Even though Germany was in very many aspects 'Anti-American', the collaboration of the Western theme with the Nazi ideals is somewhat ironic. I feel that to look . Other than Hollywood's even decide to produce their own, the decisive question is not: is this really a Western? Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
