Here is Newburgh ‘at a glance’ to whet your appetite for the attractions of this picturesque Lancashire village. Covers an area of about 447 hectares (1104 acres) and the population is about 1000. The centre of the village is a conservation area. We’ve more than 40 listed buildings and many historic houses. Although we’re called “Newburgh” we have a long history. Most significant date is 1304 when the village was granted a Market Charter. We had a great 700th anniversary. With another in Newburgh, Indiana.

Newburgh has been described as arguably the most attractive village in West Lancashire. About five miles from Ormskirk, the parish is bounded by the Leeds and Liverpool canal and the River Tawd and River Douglas. It is rich in open space and recreational areas and is set in countryside attractive for walkers. Newburgh is surrounded by Green Belt and at its heart is a conservation area with a village green – the site of an ancient fair – and a mixture of 17th, 18 th. And 19th century buildings.

I've taken this view hundreds of times, always different of course, the changing nature of light, water level and of the fields. Harvest is largely over, ploughing and sowing is in full swing advantaged by the clement weather.
