Rebel Against the Rebellion. In 1861, with the shots at Fort Sumter still ringing, Tennessee became the last state to secede. But the citizens here in East Tennessee did not support the Confederates. When Tennessee left the Union, East Tennessee left the state. A grassroots movement attempted to form the Free State of Nickajack. They were rebelling against the rebellion. It's not a political state, is a spiritual one, founded on the words of Jesus. Proudly show all that you've joined the uprising!

On the evening of 15 August 1992, David Gant and a friend donned SCUBA gear and illegally entered Nickajack Cave in search of giant catfish.
