The Rich Coast: November 2012

http://nickhawkinscostarica.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

I arrived in Costa Rica on the 12. After an easy flight from Toronto. I was grateful to see two familiar faces once I landed in San Jose, Jeimy and Carlos had made the drive from the peninsula to pick me up. Sunrise in the front yard. Tambor Tropical at night, I live in one of the top suites. Towering royal palms over the hotel. Sign at the lagoon we placed to deter dumping in the area. Looking up from the bar. I was eager to find out, but my route back would soon be inundated by the incoming tide. I...

Nico and I, enjoying a rice and beans breakfast. Hanging out while I work. I am now getting ready for another summer living on my sailboat in St. Andrews. The boat goes in the water on the 14.

The Rich Coast: January 2011

http://nickhawkinscostarica.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Once safely at Tambor, we pack the gear and head off to Curu to get ready for our clients. After we meet with Barb and Steve (really nice people) we set off on the hour long paddle to make base camp on Quesera beach. I tried to put it's beauty into words in previous posts, but this time I will let it speak for itself. We set up a base camp on Quesera and prepare for the two nights we will be staying. I set-up my small two-man tent under a beach almond tree (to shield from falling coconuts). On the final ...

They inhabit nearly every aquatic environment on earth; from the abyssal depths of the deepest oceans to high altitude lakes and rivers. The fish, as ancient as they are adaptive, have diversified into a staggering 35,000 species, making them the largest of all vertebrate groups. 500 million years of evolution has produced fish that can fly, crawl, light up, breathe air and yes, even climb! At the top of the falls, rock-climbing fish on rock. Rock-climbing goby on vertcial rock face. Beta male long-taile...
