Thursday, April 24, 2008. Do not take hot baths or showers, they dry out the skin. Use warm to cool water. Do not use soap because it dries and irritates the skin. Do not dry the skin by rubbing after taking a bath or shower. Dab the skin lightly with a towel then put on Alpha hydroxyacid lotion. Most effective when put on moist skin after bathing. Alpha hydroxyacid lotion will dissolve the scales and increase the skins moisture content. Living in a warm climate can improve condition.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008. The inherited forms of ichthyosis. Occur from a genetic mutation. The gene that has been mutated is passed on through generations. There may be only one person in a family affected by this and that is because either they have inherited one recessive gene from each parent or they have a gene that was spontaneously mutated.
