Niki in Nigeria: Where Does Your Chicken Come From?

http://www.nikiinnigeria.blogspot.com/2011/06/where-does-your-chicken-come-from.html

Monday, 27 June 2011. Where Does Your Chicken Come From? Glyn told the team about a conversation he had with a local Nigerian woman while at the office last week. The conversation sparked from Glyn’s observation of free roaming chickens throughout the city. He asked if these hens and rooster were the source of the roasted foul sold by the street food vendors. The woman replied yes and then asked Glyn where he obtained his chicken, to which he made a joke by stating “from the grocery store.". An Evening w...

Niki in Nigeria: It Is Not The Destination, But The Journey

http://www.nikiinnigeria.blogspot.com/2011/06/it-is-not-destination-but-journey.html

Sunday, 26 June 2011. It Is Not The Destination, But The Journey. Monolith On The Way To Niger State. This weekend the team was able to get out f the city on a couple of day trips. While both days started early, waking up to see the sunrise was well worth it. On Saturday, we took a trip west to Niger State. As we left the Abuja the contrast between the city and the county became clear. Rural Life On The Way To Niger State. We passed by markets with fresh fruit, yams, and live chickens. Upon exiting the c...

Niki in Nigeria: Guara Falls—The Great Falls of Nigeria

http://www.nikiinnigeria.blogspot.com/2011/07/guara-fallsthe-great-falls-of-nigeria.html

Monday, 4 July 2011. Guara Falls—The Great Falls of Nigeria. In between Minna and Abuja, there is a State Park called Guara Falls. On the way back from Niger State, the team took a detour from the highway to check them out. We were pleasantly surprised to see a newly paved road- much nicer than the highway I might add, but a little discouraged when a group of men under an umbrella approached our van and asked for 500 Naira each to enter. We continued down the newly paved road and parked when it ended.

Niki in Nigeria: Faces of Nigeria

http://www.nikiinnigeria.blogspot.com/2011/06/faces-of-nigeria.html

Monday, 27 June 2011. This a land of opportunity for any entrepreneur. New business are sprouting up like weeds. For example, dry cleaners are popping up in the city to meet the growing demand of business people, food vendors cater the growing population, and stores such Sahad Market draw enormous crowds due to its variety of products. While Nigeria still has a way to go in terms of development, one thing is sure, its people are determined. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fingers, Fork, or Chopsticks?

Asha's World: Successful presentation at NPHCDA

http://ashalakshman.blogspot.com/2011/07/successful-presentation-at-nphcda.html

Blogging from Abuja, Nigeria. Thursday, 7 July 2011. Successful presentation at NPHCDA. Dr Pate, Exec. Director in the center. I am happy to say that our final presentation at NPHCDA was very well received and the agency was happy. They thanked and appreciated us for coming up with their strengths, gap analysis and the recommendations. Ann and Lawrence from CDC were present at the presentation. Over all I would like to highlight that this was a good experience at Abuja and I will remember it for ever.

Big Blue in Abuja: 3 More Days in Nigeria

http://bigblueinabuja.blogspot.com/2011/07/3-more-days-in-nigeria.html

Big Blue in Abuja. Tuesday, July 5, 2011. 3 More Days in Nigeria. I leave Abuja this Friday night. Part of me can't believe the four weeks are nearly over and another part is so ready for a week of vacation! To all who thought the CSC was like a vacation, think again. Most nights I've returned to my room to finish up on some work or to prepare for the next day. Plus, living in this volatile country the last four weeks has raised my blood pressure a bit, I won't lie. View of Aso ("Victorious") Rock.

Big Blue in Abuja: Lagos!

http://bigblueinabuja.blogspot.com/2011/07/lagos.html

Big Blue in Abuja. Sunday, July 3, 2011. I had heard from several people (plus my lonely planet guide book) that you can’t come to. This past weekend I saw the real. And it is incredible. It started off typically. With a three hour delay at the. Took twice as long as it was supposed to.) Once on board, we waited another hour for the storm to pass before we took off for. Saturday morning we went to a café and enjoyed two cups of coffee each. It was the first real coffee we tasted in three weeks! The coffe...

Big Blue in Abuja: Pictures from Week 3

http://bigblueinabuja.blogspot.com/2011/07/pictures-from-week-3.html

Big Blue in Abuja. Friday, July 1, 2011. Pictures from Week 3. Take notice to the goat in the background. You see goats and chickens all over the place in the more rural areas. And to those wondering, they are eaten, not kept as pets. I've talked a lot about power so here is a photo of a generator. A lot of schools have them, but they don't have the funds to use them. You have to fill it with diesel to run it. July 1, 2011 at 8:06 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My views are my own.

Blogging from Abuja, Nigeria. Monday, 4 July 2011. My last CSC weekend in Abuja. This is my last weekend of this assignment and I have mixed feelings. I am getting tensed as I have to complete my presentation and at the same time, it is just 5 more days to get back home! I am missing my family so much :(. On Saturday, we went to a local market in Garki district. The local market view. Kim, Brad and Glyn @ local market. Yes, colorful alligators would be fried to satisfy the hunger for taste!
