Monday, July 13, 2009. Hiking to the Statue Above San Juan. With his hand extended, an enormous statue of Jesus looks out over the bay. Completed in 2008, the statue is visible from anywhere in the city and for at least three miles down the coast. The hike up to the statue was tremendously hot and sweaty. Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Feeling at Home at Nelgin’s - June 28, 2009. During dinner we talked more because I asked whose son Luis is. She told me he was her son, and that he was born in Costa Rica. She explained that they fled to Costa Rica because of the war in Nicaragua. They lived in Costa Rica for six years.
