We have raised a variety of turkeys in the past including broad breasted whites, which were culls from a friend’s daughter’s livestock show flock, broad breasted bronze which we purchased as young poults in Bryan and Bourbon Reds acquired from two friends near Lexington. We currently have two Red Bourbon hens and one large tom. This entry was posted in poultry.

Our favorite cornbread | Flying Pony Farm

Where the animals live in a state of zen and the farmers keep busy. This is just to say…. Just what weekends are for…. →. August 25, 2011. About two years ago, after much trial and error of combining recipes I found in cookbooks, online, blogs, etc., I came up with what we considered a perfect recipe for our homestead cornbread. It was so delicious that I submitted it for publication in a cookbook that a group of my girlfriends put out to raise money for one of our favorite message boards. Now for the aw...

Artisan Farmstead Living: December 2011
http://artisanfarmsteadliving.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Enjoy preserving the beauty and integrity found in everyday farm life and artisan farm based products. Sunday, December 4, 2011. A Farm Girl Christmas. That trip meant far more to me than any trip to the jewelry store ever could. I've been musing over the fact that I got a 'Sable' for Christmas. Most women would think it was a coat not a goat. Thus I was inspired to rewrite the 'Santa Baby' song so that it would apply to all us farm girls. Santa baby, slip a Sable under the tree, for me. Boo doo bee doo.

Homemade pizza | Flying Pony Farm

Where the animals live in a state of zen and the farmers keep busy. It’s been awhile…. Took the hogs to market…. →. July 5, 2011. We’ve been blessed with lots of tomatoes this year, so I have been coming up with all sorts of recipes to use up these homegrown organic yummies. This pizza recipe uses fresh chopped tomatoes sauteed into a chunky sauce. First, I started the dough working for the crust. I like to make the dough from scratch and have found that the bread machine works great for this. After the ...

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Friday, April 10, 2015. The sun is out this morning and with some difficulty, I step out on the back porch and hear the call of the mourning doves and the chirping of the smaller birds as they fill their little chests and hearts with the fresh spring air. The ducks watch me covertly (they think.but I can see them there on the lawn, still as statues). Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Deliriously happy ranch wife living on 250,000 acr...

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Thursday, August 28, 2014. At last the radio fencing is complete and the Polarbears are back on duty. The sheep were ecstatic to see them and it wasn’t a day too soon, as I went out to visit, just in time to see them go after an ENORMOUS coyote that was headed for the sheep. EmmaLou was out cruising around….ever the ham…. The garden is finally giving me veggies…. And Potamus is surrounded by his sheeple, a very happy guy. Links to this post. Throu...

A glimpse of life on a 250,000 acre working cattle ranch. Sunday, July 20, 2014. TheMan is home, running the pivots and fixing equipment. I'm hoping against hope that he will be able to help me finish the mile of dog fencing as I really need to get the Maremmas back out with the sheep where they belong. He bought the rest of the cavvy in from across the road. Links to this post. Thursday, July 3, 2014. I took some pics of the cowboys working for him. Eventually he staggered out of bed 5 hours later than ...
