Norfolk Dragons:Species found in Norfolk

http://norfolkdragons.co.uk/species.shtml

What Did You See? All the species recorded in Norfolk have their own pages, accessable through the menu to the left. But if you're not sure what you saw, then try this quick identification guide. Firstly, was it a dragonfly or a damselfly? Dragonflies are large (over 2 inches), fast-flying and typically rest with their wings spread out. Damselflies are small (typically under 2 inches), fly close to the ground and rest with their wings closed over their back. Darters are smaller and lighter versions of Ch...

Dragonflies of Norfolk - Home page

http://norfolkdragons.co.uk/index.shtml

The Dragonflies and Damselflies of Norfolk. Dragonflies are one of the oldest and most fascinating groups of insects in the world. This site is a guide to the many different species that can be found in Norfolk. We aim to show you where to go to see dragonflies and what you are likely to see when you get there. They’re beautiful: with a range of colours and patterns that will delight and dazzle, as we hope the photographs here will show. And they’re attainable: no need for expensive trips to foreig...

Norfolk Dragons:Getting Started

http://norfolkdragons.co.uk/start.shtml

Here are a few pages for people just starting out to watch dragonflies. The flight season is from roughly April to October, with occasionally a few individuals being seen in late March and early November. Obviously not all species are flying at the same time: the earliest is usually the Large Red damselfly while the Common Darter is usually the last seen. A few tips for spotting dragonflies:. Photography is often easier on colder, overcast days as the insects are less inclined to fly.

Dragonflies of Norfolk - Locations to see dragonflies

http://norfolkdragons.co.uk/sites.shtml

Here are some of the best dragonfly sites in Norfolk. Each site has a dedicated page, which includes a list of species recorded there. Of course you need to be there at the right time of year: you won't see Migrant Hawkers in June or Four-spots in August. So the guides need to be interpreted with this in mind. Don't expect to see all the species on a single visit. Either click on the blue squares on the map or use the menu on the left.
