Patch birding and other stories. Skip to primary content. October 22, 2010. For some reason, blogger is doing nowt but make strange noises today when exposed to imagery. So for the sake of completion but on the wrong blog – this is an incredible high quality photograph of a Wheatear that I found in Fulham recently (a Mega, natch). I should now be able to link this back to another place where it is actually relevant. Perhaps. You with me? Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Feathered Upstart: April 2014
http://featheredupstart.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
The blog of an amateur birdwatcher based mostly in and around South Essex, but with occasional trips to exciting and exotic locations. Monday, 28 April 2014. Let's go fly a Kite. My abiding memory from that climb is Skylarks. All the way up, absolutely everywhere, singing their little hearts out. It really is an amazing sound and the sheer number was enough to make me happy, even if the views consisted of small black specks against bright blue sky (in Wales! Very unexpected, but most welcome). Juv Yellow...

Fame, if you see him at Birdfair tell him Andrew and Amy said hi! That I liked to watch birds and we mysteriously ended up with naturalists as tour guides. So I didn't do too badly. No birds; just a beach, some exotic trees and the Indian ocean. You all know this one right? My guides called this out as a Plain Prinia, ...

The blog of an amateur birdwatcher based mostly in and around South Essex, but with occasional trips to exciting and exotic locations. Tuesday, 24 July 2012. Shortly to be renamed 'Pretty Insects'. I know it says birds in the title, but they don't come out well on phone cameras. Not a tick this time, but I'm fairly sure it's the first picture. Of a Red Admiral on patch at Tower Bridge. Looks like a bit of sunshine is doing some good. Very nice to see. Links to this post. Monday, 23 July 2012. Three peaks...

The blog of an amateur birdwatcher based mostly in and around South Essex, but with occasional trips to exciting and exotic locations. Sunday, 27 May 2012. 222 posts of this drivel, 201 birds seen. Just updated BUBO and noticed that I broke 200 while in the Cairngorms. 201 was Black Grouse (seen on the Sunday), so by my count 200 was Ptarmigan - the last lifer I picked up on the Saturday. This makes me happy. So happy in fact that I'm going to steal a photo. Links to this post. Monday, 21 May 2012. Unfor...

The blog of an amateur birdwatcher based mostly in and around South Essex, but with occasional trips to exciting and exotic locations. Thursday, 5 September 2013. Sri Lanka part 2 - Sigiriya. Sigiriya was one of my favourite places on this trip. It had an excellent combination of good food, good wildlife and a massive hill to climb. It was also the bit of the tour where I first saw an Elephant. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Not actually anywhere near Sigiriya. Elephants are brilliant. Fact. There are an ...

Wandering and wondering in Fulham. Friday, 16 April 2010. Kestrel among the tombstones. On my way to the shops via Margravine Cemetery 2 afternoons ago, I was walking via the grass as mostly usual when I noticed at the edge of, but slightly out, a big group of pigeons another bird which I took initially for one of those weird colour pigeons. We don't have many in the cemetery, most are fairly classic, but we still have a few like this one:. On the ground in the cemetery! It then flew from tree to tree, p...

Monday, 20 April 2015. Patch Birding once again. Been blasting the patch again and a first for me.another birder. I am not alone on my wooded waterway. A fairly quiet day otherwise with most birds seemingly put off by the chilly easterly. Although a few year ticks, with a very early Reed Warbler, a fly over Tree Pipit and a surprisingly long time coming Coot. Here are the best pics of the day. This was today thought it looked cool. Tuesday, 7 April 2015. Migrants on the Patch. I carried on walking throug...
Gary's Birding Blog: Getting up at 5am does make a difference
http://garybirder.blogspot.com/2015/06/getting-up-at-5am-does-make-difference.html
Tuesday, 9 June 2015. Getting up at 5am does make a difference. Last night I found the young owls once again that I had seen last week ( I actually found two extra sets elsewhere also). So as the light is terrible in the deep dark woods in the evening I thought would go early doors to see what I could get. I covered two sections of my patch walking from Bacton Woods through to Ebridge. The baby owls were still in the same spot but the light still wasn't that great, so I walked on. This Bee gave me a wave.
