Garden Plant List for Zone 3 | Northern Shade Gardening
http://northernshade.ca/plant-list
Gardening in a cold climate under the trees. This beautiful fern has a delicate appearance with its thin black stalks and its airy looking foliage, but it is hardy. It looks great in the shade under trees and contrasts nicely with broad leafed plants. 8216;Diamant’ (astilbe). 8216;Europa’ (astilbe). This is a medium sized astilbe with a terrific soft pink flower. The flower colour is my favourite of all astilbes. When the flower fades to brown, I leave them on the plant for winter interest. Beautiful Bellflowers | Northern Shade Gardening
http://northernshade.ca/2008/07/12/beautiful-bellflowers
Gardening in a cold climate under the trees. I always smile at the sight of bees in the flowers of Campanula. Most of the flowers are small, short tubes, and bees can’t get all the way in. They squeeze their bodies in as far as they can to get the nectar goodness, while their back ends hang outside, and wiggle back and forth. This perennial with pretty stars is. 8216;Blaue clips’ (blue clips). I also have the very similar. I have 2 white flowering versions of. 8216;Weisse clips’ (White Clips) and &...

Secret Cottage Garden: September 2009
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Monday, September 28, 2009. My tomato is still producing, despite the heat-damaged foliage. My leafy begonia did not survive the heat. I hope they will produce new leaves from the bulb. I keep watering them. The path the painters made through my bed to get at the side of the house. It will take some time for this to recover. There is some good news. Despite the heat some plants have fourished. Witness my peony rose. Four buds! Posted by Mary Delle LeBeau.

Secret Cottage Garden: Blue on Blue
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009/11/blue-on-blue.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Saturday, November 28, 2009. My first 78 record was Blue on Blue when I was a teenager. I was never really fond of the song, but will never forget the title. Bobby Vinton was singing a song about having the blues. And this post is about the blues, but in my garden, inspired by Kiki at Awake with Charm and Spirit. First a huge thank you to two wonderful bloggers who have given me the best blog award. And from The Violet Fern. Echeveria in Blue Ceramic pot.

North Dakota Garden: July 2008
http://chrisnd.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 31, 2008. What do you get when you have:. I went out in the garden and discovered little yellow eggs on a dill plant. After returning indoors I felt something crawling on my arm.it was the above creature. Upon returning outside I spotted many sets of ladybug eggs and more than 50 nymphs all over the dill. (Click the photo and you can count a few.). I must be getting more aware of what is in the garden, because I cannot recall seeing the running of the nymphs in the past. Links to this post.

Sunday, June 29, 2008. Sunday Safari - Including Dragonflies. I'm doing a Sunday Safari again in an effort to find what insects visit my garden. Last week. I joined Cheryl at My Wildlife Sanctuary. And Sherry at Q's Corner. In a safari. We've had some nice rain lately, but today is calm and could do a walk about. Above isn't the promised dragonflies, but a blue damselfly - there are a number flying around. I was surprised by this dragonfly as I was picking peas.just resting with wet wings from rains.
North Dakota Garden: March 2008

Sunday, March 30, 2008. I'm getting anxious to put some early plants in the ground but it's just too soon. Witness my temperature taking device. Poke it in the ground and see how far the frost is. Although in the AM before the sun warms the ground the stick doesn't stick. Just as well, it's not scientific and I don't think it works. I have a link on the sidebar to a Victory Seeds Company page. So what's the bottom line? Links to this post. Friday, March 28, 2008. I am experiencing some déjà vu today.

Secret Cottage Garden: LA Arboretum: Trees
http://secretcottagegarden.blogspot.com/2009/11/la-arboretum-trees.html
Dedicated to the garden spirits that live here. Friday, November 20, 2009. I love the strength and stature of a tree. They are the old and wise beings of the plant world. As they grow older their beauty shines in a new way. Some of the Arboretum trees had this sort of beauty. Pink or Silk Floss Tree. This tree's leaves are beginning to turn in autumn's coolness. This tree is unusual, as it has no living relatives, all others being extinct. It's extinct relatives can still be found as fossils....The silve...
