Northumbrian Birding: September 2014

http://northumbrianbirding.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 30 September 2014. Newcastle's Swing Bridge and Victorian Tunnels. Labels: Newcastles Swing Bridge. The Bridge was erected in place of a fine classic Georgian stone bridge to allow ship access to Armstrong's works further up the Tyne. One guy spent the whole war living down the tunnels having come through the first world war .his family taking food etc down to him . Somehow I cant imagine today's generation putting up with it no phone signal for one thing 1. This is the OUSEBURN. This is the Gra...

http://northumbrianbirding.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 15 July 2014. Bog Pimpernel, in carpets and actually seemed to thrive on the numerous paths trodden through the area. A few plants located in the tall thick grass. The Smallest flower I have ever seen the Marsh Pennywort luckily it forms in clusters with one out and numerous others to follow the whole group is only a few millimetres across. And the same shot with the flowers in the centre. A walk along the dune /shore Edge turned up Sea Rocket. And Grass Leaved Orache. Friday, 11 July 2014.

Wednesday, 15 January 2014. I took lots of video as it tried to wrestle with the fish but could still not work out what was going on. Now time for a preen taking no notice of me. GND has a great profile with that steep forehead and flat top. 3-4 Red Breasted Mergansers around also, I did not get to far up river. 2nd Winter Med Gull where else but the chip shop! I thought this was an fell adult ,but you can just see a trace of black on the primary. Me looking up as it sat on the lamp post. Fatbirder,birdi...

Natures Moments: January 2013

http://joesnaturesmoments.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 12 January 2013. Just finished my dinner as I looked out of the dining room window to see this fella looking for his,he is quite a patient chap always allowing me time to get the camera from the bag ,open the back door and fire off a few frames. He was unlucky today as the Goldfinch gave him the slip. His new strategy now is to walk along the fence looking into the beech hedge to see who if any are hiding before going in after them. Wednesday, 9 January 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Natures Moments: Campfield Marshes

http://joesnaturesmoments.blogspot.com/2014/08/campfield-marshes.html

Wednesday, 6 August 2014. Staying on the Solway Coast for a few days we squeezed in a trip to Campfield Marsh between the showers as we made our way along the board walk it was nice to see good numbers of common lizards scurrying back onto the marsh, then we encountered this rather large larva making its way across the board walk. The day after we arrived home my son brought this Vapourer Moth Larva round saying it had dropped on him as he was pruning some shrubbery. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Northumbrian Birder in The Algarve

Sunday, 13 December 2009. 10 Days in The Algarve. We had onbe day overcast with a few showers and endeed up here after going to Lidls for some food, beer and loads of wine ( I am no wine snob as long as its red and my glass is full it's fine ). I could see how this would be a fantastic place given the right protection, we also witnessed three large dogs roam all over which in the breeding season would cause havoc . We stopped to look at a group of corvids hoping for Choughs but we got Jackdaws instead th...

Northumbrian Books

Wednesday, 15 August 2012. Angels and Men by Catherine Fox. I'm going to file this under Northumbrian Books - okay, I know it's not, it's Durham, but I said I was going to apply the category loosely. And, to be fair, I found it during my hunt for books set in Northumberland, so it occupies that place in my mind. And I am so. Glad I found it, because it is terrific! Does this sound oppressive? For a sequel to Angels and Men. Cross-posted at Geranium Cat's Bookshelf. Sunday, 15 July 2012. At last I underst...
