Notes from NOLA

Pretty settled here in New Orleans. Follow along if you wonder what we're up to. Miss you friends and family everywhere! Tuesday, August 21, 2012. 1st Day of Big Boy School. It's time for full day Kindergarten. Lucky for us, we've had 2 years of "school" already so this was no sweat. Aside from the hideous shoes and socks, he looks pretty cute in his uniform. Enough pictures, Mom. I am lucky enough to walk Robin to school again this year. I think we clocked it at 7 minutes (at 5 year old speed). Big Papa...

Notes from NOLA: November 2011

http://notesfromvirginia.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Pretty settled here in New Orleans. Follow along if you wonder what we're up to. Miss you friends and family everywhere! Wednesday, November 2, 2011. I think Robin wore his ninja costume 5 times this year for Halloween. I only donned my Princess Leia 3 times, and I think it was 2 times too many. Anyway. Robin's Open House at school. Joe was out of town, but I made sure to take pics and videos. Here he is on our walk over to the school. We made a spiderweb, well, actually, Robin did it all by himself.

Pretty settled here in New Orleans. Follow along if you wonder what we're up to. Miss you friends and family everywhere! Friday, February 10, 2012. It's Mardi Gras season here. I'll post some photos soon. :). Happy New Year, Happy Birthday, Happy King Cake Day! You better be a good year, 2012! No, I'm not 433 years old. We had no 7, so the boys had put the 3 and the 3 4 on the cake. 37? That doesn't sound right. I swear this wasn't rigged. I got the baby on my birthday! Christmas morning has arrived!

Pretty settled here in New Orleans. Follow along if you wonder what we're up to. Miss you friends and family everywhere! Saturday, August 20, 2011. Date night in the Garden District.lame as I am, I got a kick out of the presentation here. Magic show at the library. While Joe was away, my Mom came down to visit, which is quite impressive in this sticky heat, especially because we did lots of outside things. We took her downtown. Here are the two troublemakers just outside Cafe Du Monde. Joe found a lady f...

Pretty settled here in New Orleans. Follow along if you wonder what we're up to. Miss you friends and family everywhere! Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Beginning our New Orleans adventures. Of course we really didn't get out much the first couple weeks because we were in land of boxes. R liked to set up shop inside the big ones complete with food, drink, blanket, pillow, flashlight and DVD player. Joe did take Robin out a lot so I could get unpacking uninterrupted. Right where the ferry drops you off, there are...

the sweetpeas: March 2010

http://thesweetpeas.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 03, 2010. Its been a while, but better late than never I think. Its been a busy winter for us, and I use the word winter lightly, but you know-it did rain here a few times and closed some things down so we'll call that a weather disaster. CPea and LilPea celebrated many days of Valentines of course between home, school, and neighborhood activities. Any holiday where candy is a focal points tends to be big with LilPea especially. the sweetpeas: March 2009

http://thesweetpeas.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 29, 2009. The sweetpea extended family got a great addition in February, a boy! So we'll have to think of a manly little nickname for him. But in the meantime, the girls were so glad to finally meet him after a series of winter colds kept them home for a few weeks. He is, as CPea says, "So cute! Here are the girls and the Uncle with him in San Diego. CPea had her ballet recital for the winter session. She really has learned so much over the year, it was such change from her fall recital.

the sweetpeas: Sweetpea Summer Fun

http://thesweetpeas.blogspot.com/2009/08/sweetpea-summer-fun.html

Friday, August 28, 2009. This end of summer feels like an uphill sprint to me these days. We are leaving for DC on Sunday so its been a whirlwind of preparing for back to school when we return and planning and packing for our trip and Amy's wedding. Still, we managed some summer fun. We went up to Ventura to see Scott compete in the Strawberry Hills Triathalon. This is us in a peddle car. Both girls went to Vacation Bible School which they really enjoyed. CPea lost her second (! I hope DC is a blast!

http://thesweetpeas.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 24, 2009. The birds aren't the only ones bursting into song this spring. CPea's. Preschool hosted their annual Spring Sing. As you will see, CPea. Takes singing VERY seriously and often composes her own tunes that sound something like Alanis. In her nursery school days. The theme this year for her class was "Fishers of Men." Evidently in the biblical interpretation, visors and tie. Dye shirts played a big part in fishing industry. The whole class loved performing and CPea.

Sunday, July 26, 2009. A Camping we will go. Being the military family that we are, we move around. Scott and I do our best to try new adventures in our new enviroment. Here in Huntington Beach, we have a lovely state park with a campground. Even though its a mile from our house, for the 4th of July, we rented an RV and got a camping spot right next to our friends to help our new town celebrate their bicentennial. CPea and LilPea and their friend Macy, all in matching dresses to watch the parade. All of ...

the sweetpeas: April 2009

http://thesweetpeas.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 14, 2009. I am by all counts, the least sciencey. Person I know. However, CPea. Had Good Friday off from school and it was a cloudy day so the girls and I headed off to the Discovery Science Museum in Santa Ana. It was a pretty good time due in no small part to the Bubblefest. Show that ended with the audience being bombarded with bubbles. LilPea. Took no time to add 'bubble' to her ever expanding vocabulary. Posing in the cube. And despite the economic state of the nation, CPea.

wandering seals: January 2014

http://wanderingseals.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 26, 2014. We ski (in connecticut). And by "we" I mean everyone in the family except me. I am not really a skier and I don't feel bad about it; but, I lounge in a ski hut like a champ. Last weekend, we wandered over to New Hartford, Connecticut to Ski Sundown. Papa and the boys hadn't yet skied the snows of our own state, so we thought it might be worth the try. It was good fun. Everyone skied at least one blue trail, and I drank a lot of coffee. Which is not a bad thing at all. The Elegan...

wandering seals: December 2013

http://wanderingseals.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Christmas, this year (2013). Did y"all have an enjoyable Christmas? Ours was enjoyable. We saw a pretty hilarious Christmas pageant at church (it was no Best Christmas Pageant Ever, but still.). There were serious philosophical discussions about Santa's ability to consume so many cookies (still unresolved, ahem). The pups got too many gifts and ate a lot of candy. Business as usual around here, I suppose. Links to this post. Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Sure, why not? The stuff...

Notes from Val's Kitchen

Notes from Val's Kitchen. And garden, too. Good Reads and Resources. Thursday, August 6, 2015. I feel compelled to use it all. Every vegetable, fruit, leaf of lettuce, if it's growing in my yard or on my deck. If I've had a hand in helping it to survive, it must be devoured instead of left to wither on the vine. In this one, I have omitted the garlic for those of you with sensitive stomachs and a delicate sense of smell when it comes to dining with companions who get stinky garlic breath. Not to mention ...

The Superheroes of Sandy Hook. I’m not really sure where I intend to go with this post; I just feel the need to write about it. What more can be said that hasn’t already been said by the reporters, the bloggers, the psychologists the police and the politicians? It’s senseless. There are no answers and there may never be an answer to the one question that has certainly kept all of us awake at night in these recent weeks. These surviving parents and spouses and siblings and grandparents, they are my heroes...

Thursday, May 7, 2009. From One Project to Another. Saturday, May 2, 2009. I find this back porch area so inspiring. I love the bright cheery blue the designer picked and the white trim - so crisp! If only I could get mine to look like that. Friday, May 1, 2009. Say Goodbye to the Fridge. We are finally going to say goodbye to the very ugly, alarmingly low class piece of art we have had on our porch for the last two years. The guys are coming to pick up the old rusted fridge tomorrow - yippee! I know we ...

Interestingly, this was the first ever set for Sleep Still. For being their first set ever, they were solid with their melodic sounds. They had friends and relatives hanging with them. In fact, one musician's grandfather flew in for the night. Labels: Los Angeles Music Scene. Wednesday, April 4, 2018. A Hi Hat Night: A Recent Thursday Night.

Friday, January 17, 2014. I don't know why I can't seem to keep a blog for more than a few months. Some combination of never having kept a diary as a kid, procrastination, and Netflix? Yeah, that sounds about right. A lot has happened in the past year, as it should. Most of my grad friends finished their degrees and moved away/on (one of them even got engaged! Here are my highlights from the last 362 days:. 1 Many camping trips! Or, well, three:. Long Point Provincial Park. Bruce Peninsula National Park.
