When we are short staffed and busy certain things that are low priority get dropped off the "to do" list. This list will usually end up with things like washes/showers and bed changes. I admitted a patient from the ER at 0245am last night and here are some of the things that I found:. 1) The patient was soaked in urine. 2) He was soaked in urine because under his blanket there was an unattached catheter bag. Who's is this? She would have at least found the unattached catheter bag and noticed that the patient and the bedsheets were soaked with urine. 5) The patient had no ID bracelet. I had n...

Saturday, May 15, 2010. I am completely and almost utterly mentally exhausted. I have just finished my two day shifts and they were mentally and spiritually draining to say the least. I had the smaller assignment, which only has 3 patients, but these three were a hand full. To force a patient to do something that they really don't want to do just so they can get out of the hospital? Or respect their wishes and allow them to make their own decisions? Monday, April 26, 2010. Well, I will make this one a quick post. I am just home from my second day shift and we were short staffed today, so I am soooo tired.
