We're Not in Canvas Anymore. The Graduate Journal of Mike Compton. Griffin Pines: Summoning our Inner Anthropologist. November 25, 2014. Using video loops of flashing squares, visual cultural objects, and audio events, Griffin Pines creates aleatoric. Audio-visual experiments that test the connections we hold between senses and symbolism, eyesight and mind, and ultimately between empiricism and rationalism. He combines seemingly disparate image and sounds to create overtones of paredolia. Calls a rigorou...

We're Not in Canvas Anymore. The Graduate Journal of Mike Compton. Finishing in Small Steps. January 21, 2015. I applied for the MFA program in 2013 with the intention of writing a book dealing with the changing landscape for design in recent years. In the past year I began to feel that, while writing is a great strategy for constructing my thoughts, a book (as I imagine it) is not the best channel for those thoughts. At least not yet. We're Not in Canvas Anymore. The Graduate Journal of Mike Compton. Dance of the Ten Thousand Hours. January 31, 2015. I want to be a better writer. This is no small goal, as many authors have observed writing. Is inseparable from thinking. As such, I’m coming to see that writing as an athletic mental exercise that benefits only with consistency. Hours of reading push-ups and writing pull-ups go into building our own language, thoughts, and consciousness. In his book Outliers. Uses promptos facit,. This i...
Writing a Wrong | We're Not in Canvas Anymore

We're Not in Canvas Anymore. The Graduate Journal of Mike Compton. February 28, 2015. When writing an academic research paper there are two rules. 1) The hours needed for editing are equal or greater then the hours required for writing the dang content. 2) Formatting the paper requires at least one full day. Two days if you are forced to wrestle with a conference template. Failure to plan accordingly results in eating bowls of cereal and self-pity at two in the morning. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

The skeletonization of these leaves. Began with a broken tree branch. Selected, sorted, boiled, rinsed, rinsed again,. Left to decompose, scraped, chemically altered,. Rinsed, then rinsed again, and dried. When the work is encountered, turbulence is created. If we are still, the leaves settle. In quiet moments,. Reflecting on our surroundings,. The realization of how much everything is altered becomes significant. These are scattered fragments,. Remnants of what once was,. Subscribe to Blog via Email.
Thom Glick's MFA Process Blog: September 2014
http://thomglick.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Year Two - Week Six. Over the past couple of weeks, I've put most of my focus into developing both The Giant and The Bird story ideas. I considered a third idea, to produce a series of loops, in an effort to reduce my thematic interest to its most simplest. But, at this point, I want to continue with a more traditional narrative. I've decided to move forward with The Giant. Links to this post. Thursday, September 18, 2014. Twenty-six drawings gets me here. Links to this post.

Monday, March 24, 2014. Is this the eleventh week? As stressed out as I am about how my work is manifesting, this semester, I think things are going according to plan. maybe even exceeding my expectations. I'll provide some rough bits about a few short stories I'm currently working on, but first, here are some current animation pieces that I've just wrapped up or am currently working on. In this scene, she finds a stranger, but is he the one she's looking for? Experiment - Two Lost Souls 01. And lastly, ...

Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Year Two - Thirteenth Week. Over the past couple of weeks, I've been working to assemble an animatic. The purpose of the animatic is to bring time to the situation and begin to massage it into place. Below is the latest draft of the animatic. At current it's roughly nine and a half minutes long. Sorry, I forgot one adjustment while rendering, so there's about thirty empty seconds at the end. The Giant Animatic 01. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). CCAD MFA: New Projects.

Monday, February 10, 2014. I'm supposed to present my project for critique this week. I'm freaking out. I feel like I'm making zero progress. I started last semester with an interest in storytelling. I wanted to better understand how to tell stories. I wanted to better understand how to tell stories visually. And, I wanted to better understand my voice as a storyteller. Below is a storyboard. Reading horizontally, each row is an idea for a vignette. 4 A man wakes up naked in the country side with no memo...

Sunday, April 26, 2015. MFA - The End. I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BONES - First Cut, April 2015. I joined the MFA program at Columbus College of Art and Design in the fall of 2013. I'll be submitting my final paper in just a few moments. This has been one wild ride. The narrative and media all speak to the themes of experience and motivation, specifically persistence, purpose, belonging and change. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Quietude | Claire Wiedman
https://clairewiedman.wordpress.com/2015/01/14/quietude
I’ve been a busy bee over the break, as, I’m sure, have you! The other article I’ve particularly enjoyed is “A Note on Photography in a Zen Key” by Peter Zhang in. I’ve also been very keen on the work of Daniel Borden lately, and I’ve been gobbling up anything I can find about his process and the relationship of his work to time. Hopefully that wasn’t too dull, but I’ve had things circulating in my brain and needed to commit a few things to the written word. This entry was posted in MFA. January 14, 2015.

LISBON ART / ANTÓNIO CHARRUA'S 'X DE CHARRUA'. This past weekend I went to Lisbon's Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian to see the 'X de Charrua' exhibit. Which has put António Charrua's best work on display. Created between the very late 1940s to the mid 1970s, you can witness the evolution and growth of this Portuguese artist whose work reminds me of other great names like Modigliani and Picasso. I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences I've ever had with art. The colours and lines are gorgeous.
