On the Solstice I signed my contract to take this job. And it was just last week that I recognized why I was hired for it. At the end of the workshop, he even foisted my own email signature back on the group and now? It makes more sense than it ever has. Be well this holiday season, my friends. I hope you...

Life Not terribly ordinary. A flame of interesting in a dark room of tedium. This girl they call Beth. A moment of peace. What, me worry? June 26, 2013. Next it was an actual train that impeded my progress. I found myself at the end of a long line of cars at a railroad crossing, cursing anything I could think of for the rotten luck so far in the morning. I wasn’t yet 8 AM. After the train passed, I got on the highway to again try to make it to work on time. I was in clinic for the morning. I have som...

Bye-bye, Comcast | Flyback Transformer
https://gonz.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/bye-bye-comcast
September 21, 2009. Here’s why I am leaving you. Long story short, technician never showed up on Saturday. Called Comcast again: “Oh, sorry, someone from Dispatch will contact you by 7:00 pm to reschedule.”. Nobody from Comcast called me to reschedule. I had to call Comcast early Sunday to reschedule. Spoke to nice rep named Joanne: “Oh, sorry, but we don’t do installs on Sunday. Soonest would be Monday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.”. Me: “Thanks.”. Rep from local Comcast installer: “Dunno.”. Me: “So...

What you want to hear from an edtior. And I quote, "Your piece is perfect in every way.". Oh, if only. But it's nice to read, anyway! My news, in a list. 1 The mouse (or, at least, a mouse) is gone, dispatched not by the cat, who sat and watched while the lab, yes, the lab, toyed it into oblivion. Oh my. 2 My first national magazine piece (and it is a teeny, tiny thing, but it exists) is scheduled to run in October. Cross your fingers. The H thinks yes. The kids think, bring 'em on. And I always try to s...

Tales from the Park Side: December 2007
http://newtalesfromtheparkside.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Be careful what you wish for. As I was living my glamorous life yesterday, picking up piles of dog poop from the yard, while the H sniffled and coughed inside, I was hoping for snow, both to hide the stuff I couldn't pry loose from the ice, and to return my yard to the pristine smoth-complexioned beauty that only a coating of fresh flakes can provide. Who knows. Double that, maybe? Or could they only afford to pay for three letters on the tiny stones? Do you ever, then, manage to talk yourself out of it,...

Tales from the Park Side: February 2008
http://newtalesfromtheparkside.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Here came the sun. We awoke today to the first sunny morning of our trip, and most of us (save Dido, who is in grumpy mourning for his friends here) are ready to head home anyway. This has been a stressful non-vacation dominated by the poor H's fruitless Indie Spirit adventure. I had hoped this trip, especially with Vous the au pair along, would let me relax and have concentrated visits with my friends. Not so much, but maybe next time. Fatigue and losing in Los Angeles. Nowhere to go but up, after that.

We're all on the couch. Our family visit last week (the H's step-aunt, uncle and their son, Dido's age) went swimmingly, even though we failed on our mission to deliver swimming as an activity. (Are we weird that we didn't swim much at all last summer, save some welcome invitations to friends' pools? That's my cool friend Linda. With the awesome short hair and groovy glasses.). I realized last night that I am so tired of being disappointed by my answer to the "what are you working on? Back again, briefly.

Everything's Not Terrible
Saturday, March 3. Doesn’t even begin to describe it. It’s been a year and a bit an eternity on the internet since I began my foray into the blogosphere. I remember the good times , the adventures. But mostly, I remember the challenge. Sadly, Everything’s not terrible doesn’t even begin to describe my life anymore. Everything’s just the way it should be, just the way I always imagined it would be, but only in my most fantastically optimistic moments. It’s with that in mind that I begin my new blog. It st...
