Christmas Road Trip

Thursday, January 8, 2009. Following are snapshots taken on our return journey to Perth from Coober Pedy. Below, a goods train goes by Lake Hart in South Australia. Again, vast amounts of salt can be seen. We made a little detour to Woomera. The area has been used since the 1950s for joint Australia-United Kingdom weapons testing(including that of nuclear weapons at Maralinga. Not too far away). More recently, it has been the site of a refugee detention centre. Back at Port Augusta again! The dark strata...

Christmas Road Trip: Days - Lost Count

http://www.nullarbourtrip.blogspot.com/2009/01/days-lost-count.html

Friday, January 2, 2009. Days - Lost Count. Spent many days at Nick and Dev's home in Mt Dandenong. Had lots of food. Nick and Dev drove us around to see the Christmas lights. For Christmas Eve, we shared in the LaSalle family tradition of home made pizza. Cheryl, Nick and Dev went to the test match at the MCG (not my cup of tea). More food, from. Miss Marples at Sassafras, a touristy town on Mt Dandenong. Nick and Dev's home. View from top of Mt Dandenong. Melbourne CBD can be seen on the horizon.

Christmas Road Trip: 3 Jan 2009: Coober Pedy

http://www.nullarbourtrip.blogspot.com/2009/01/3-jan-2009-cooper-pedy.html

Thursday, January 8, 2009. 3 Jan 2009: Coober Pedy. We spent a day in Coober Pedy, seeing the sights. Hot (35C on the day), dry and dusty! Some of the underground homes. The landscape around CP is full of these mounds, which result from the diggings. We went down a working mine. The miners were having a meeting. The dark strata is opal. Opal under uv light. Visited the stony plains. Where a lizard posed for me. We also saw the Dingo Fence - note the bullet holes in the sign. The Coober Pedy golf course.

Christmas Road Trip: December 2008

http://www.nullarbourtrip.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 28, 2008. Day 6: 23 Dec 2008: Adelaide to Melbourne. Long drive today, from Adelaide to Melbourne, which takes us over the SA/Victoria border. Some views through the windscreen. Rest stop at Ararat. Also in Ararat, this Chinese Heritage Centre documents the history of the Chinese in the Victorian gold fields. And so we arrived at Nick and Devon's home. I might post some pics if we make any interesting diversions on our way home. Otherwise, it's goodbye for now. Saturday, December 27, 2008.

i82much: My DIY Project

http://i82muchblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/my-diy-project.html

We've had these kitchen chairs for donkey's years. The seat is made of a woven rush material, which gives a little when you sit and is quite comfortable. A close up look:. Though a little worn after about 20 years or so, three of the six, however, look like this. They were not damaged through normal wear and tear - little fingers have been doing the dirty work. How can I break the fingers of a cutie like that? We also looked for chair weavers to repair the seats, but there were no takers. The thing is my...

i82much: Another DIY Furniture Project

http://i82muchblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/another-diy-furniture-project.html

Another DIY Furniture Project. It all started when I was cycling home and saw that one of my neighbours had chucked out a magnificent doll's house for garbage collection. I have mentioned before, I think, that several times a year, the council organises extraordinary garbage collections for household stuff too big to fit into the normal wheelie bins. Back to the doll's house - it stands chest high and I took it home for granddaughter A. Then, one day, grandma C went shopping and spotted these:. Over here...

i82much: A Look Upwards

http://i82muchblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-look-upwards.html

Flem and I must have walked past this dead tree in the local dog park (which even has its own Facebook page. And I had never thought of looking up at it. Something made me do so the other day, and I saw this beautiful bee hive nestled in the hollow of a branch, right above my head. Another dog owner told me it's been there for years. And when I eventually looked down, there was this friendly fellow at my feet, waiting to say hello and wanting a pat on the head. Only price is a few stings. After I saw the...

A New Skill Learnt. A skill old to us, but new to him. He also stars in this little family portrait. And finally, big sister has to wear glasses. He fell. LOL! Time to move everything up higher.our of his reach! Kids tend to need glasses earlier these days - with all the electronic stuff around them, my girl was no exception. I am so blessed - even at my age, I do not need glasses, never needed any. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Old Buggers with Blogs. Kans On The Road. From Post to Post.

i82much: Fish, Fish and more Fish

http://i82muchblog.blogspot.com/2015/06/fish-fish-and-more-fish.html

Fish, Fish and more Fish. I was rather dismayed to come across a news report last weekend regarding arson at the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes, as C and I had visited it a couple of years ago as part of C's pilgrimage to the Holy Land. You can read about it here. If I hadn't visited, I would have most likely missed the story altogether. Here are some photos I took. Another shot including the koi pond. A couple more fifth century mosaics:. This is supposed to be the spot where Jesus la...

i82much: Starving 'em to Death

http://i82muchblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/starving-em-to-death.html

Starving 'em to Death. The day was coldish but sunny, so we took little B out to the front yard for his lunch. Here he is, finishing up with his banana. The DIL came a little later for him, and wanted to know what's with all the black plastic in the front yard. I'm starving the winter weeds, which sprouted up with the first rains, depriving them of sunlight and preventing photosynthesis. I just shift the black plastic around every couple of weeks. But don't that kill the lawn, you ask me. We are loath to...

i82much: School Holiday Sleepover

http://i82muchblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/school-holiday-sleepover.html

They wanted to sleep in the lounge and watch tv till they drop off. Took them to lunch - he's the fussy eater, will only eat sticky rice and fried squid tentacles. Whereas we'll eat everything. After lunch, we took them to the circus. R had never been to one before, but big sister A had. And a pic without the coloured lights. A pony ride for A during intermission, but R declined. A video of the circus acts can be seen here. So much fun sleeping in the living room! I like that Arthur, all in one! Christma...

i82much: DIY Progress Report

http://i82muchblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/diy-progress-report.html

I started on the chair weaving about 2 weeks ago. After going on for a little while on the first chair, I realised I was going a little crooked and would end up with a hole in the middle. So I had to undo the whole thing and start again. The second time around seemed a little easier after the initial experience and took about seven hours to complete the chair (over two days). I then did the second chair in about six hours, also over two days. You may remember the vegie seedlings that grandson R gave to me.
