Understanding the mainland population. September 15, 2008. Filming Sea Lions and Amelie. Yoshiko Cowell writes;. I went out to the Peninsula beaches and followed Amelie around as she used the radio transmitter to find the female sea lions that she had tagged. It was difficult to find them as they hide very well but with the aid of the transmitters, we found Leonie with her pup. Due to their size and the fact they carry disease, it is advisable to follow the guidelines when discovering them on the beach to make your experience more enjoyable;. Keep at least 10 metres away from sea lions. They can run fast on land. If the sea lion starts to approach, move away calmly. Please respect their right to rest.
